Move the red motor lead to T1 and wire to Dewhurst as advised here: https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/topic/crompton-motor-and-dewhurst-switch-problems/

I think you’re meant to include an on/off switch or contactor before the Dewhurst as it doesn’t like switching the load.

@Guineafowl ....thanks very much for drawing that out ....but there's only one T terminal on the board that goes anywhere....earlier I also mistakenly misread T3 as T1 ( so much carp had to cleared off and once it had dried the real notations were more defined).......
Anyway I did more thinking and remembered another motor nearby that looked similar ....and the mains connections on that are just to A1 and A2. When I thought about the logic of that it seems simple that both run and start share those terminals....both run and start are energised together at startup, but once motor is turning the centrifugal switch breaks the start circuit, leaving the run windings energised.
I'll test that out over the next few days with a direct connection bypassing the dewhurst switch for the moment and then reverse the connections to see if motor works ok in reverse.......and then maybe think about the dewhurst connections - with a mains switch added upstream. Let's see...

Yes, I see T1 is actually T3, but it doesn’t matter too much - you’ll have to move the red wire from A2 as that’s the switch, and it has no business being there, unless the motor wasn’t being reversed.

You'll have to move the start and run windings onto separate terminals in order to reverse only one of them using the dewhurst switch.
I think there are enough spare terminals to do that.

You will need 5 core cable to extend the 4 winding wires plus earth to your dewhurst switch.

After that I don't know as I've never wired a dewhurst switch!
