A grand for a myford with lots of bits is reasonable, but no matter how good a myford it is, with lathes size is important, and myfords are a small model makers lathe.I get what your saying, I thought I was getting a good deal for £1000 it even comes with the old 240v motor, can't see me getting a better lathe for less to be honest
well mine certainly hasnt been used for model makingA grand for a myford with lots of bits is reasonable, but no matter how good a myford it is, with lathes size is important, and myfords are a small model makers lathe.

Not many, but I was using a 1970s a typical excuse to the wife for lathe expenditure. Though Ive done a few trailer ones recently to just knock the lip off.Aye, but how many of us want/need to skim a brake drum?

I'm waiting for Dcal to get back to me.@Dcal has offered his up, and its in NI...
Funny you should mention brake skimming. At one point I had a Harrison ,I don't remember the model but it came as a bundle in a good deal . Kept it as a big boys lathe to back up my myford. Only ever used it once in 10 years to skim the liner in a Fontana braked wheel. sold it on . OK they are over priced but the myford will handle most things I want to do. Just don't think they are anything other that a ' home ' tool.Fair point, but skimming a brake drum would be an issue!

@Dcal I've pm'd you.I've a Boxford I bought on here a while ago that needs a new home.
Its not the only lathe I own, but because of lack of space it's the only lathe I can use.
It works fine, has the screw cutting gearbox, powered cross feed and more than enough tooling to get you going - 3 jaw, 4 jaw, travelling steady, face plate, quick change toolpost etc.
The bed isn't bad either since I changed it out for a better one.
If your interested, PM me.
