Show us your bench vice(s)

Would love this for my welding trolley, unfortunately it's 100 miles away. Wonder if I can talk Mrs into a day at the beach (Portstewart is a nice seaside town).

I've employed that approach several times. Bit of a double edged sword though. You run the risk of being told you never take them anywhere unless you're collecting something, when they get the huff on.

This was taken today, shows wheel, spare vice tiny anvil and tool racks.
It is moveable but a bit dodgy.

How do you get on with the vice on a wheeled stand? I have mine bolted to a heavy bench that's bolted to the floor so I can get some leverage.

It has not been a problem, I avoided bolting it down because the floor would disintegrate. Too thin and no reinforcing mesh in it.
Too my surprise it is less inconvenience than having it fixed down.
Their is an inch of ply below the steel plate and it sits on the floor on four bolt heads so the weight is focused on a tiny area.
To use the wheels I tip it up and stagger around praying not to drop it. They are about 30mm clear of the floor when not being moved.

here are mine




blue un is a 1 ton vice



the redish one was.. a broken, cast woodwork vice ...

so i had an old trolly jack that was leaking,
so i saved the sides and scrapped the rest


the rsj and the big lump of steel i welded to it is my bench anvil...


then i had the idea to make the vice suitable for bending thin metal sheet,
i welded some bar inside the plates, and then welded the front plate onto the runners in the old vice

it is great to trap things to be welded in the vice and put the earth clamp on the handle

It's just an area I decided to make into a welding corner..ready to start some work on my 1972 vw camper...

I broke the. Woodwork vice a Few years ago ..

then had a recycling brain wave..

I might tidy up the welds one day...but I doubt it...

For information a valve spring from a Hino cement truck fits a no6 record!

The vice has done a bit more than just change colour. Those bolt croppers are huge.

I broke the cast woodworking vice around 4 years ago ( the old favourite,over tightening it) and it's been screwed there ever since..

I've waited 3 years to use the plates from the old trolly jack..now I have a decent welder..the murex 235 ,( or which ever model it is....)
stuffs gonna get welded...

A baby vice.

Jaw width is just 2-1/8". Still need to add the pins on that one. Someone had replaced them with bolts at some point in the past.
