Shed base question

Bade of my new shed is treated timber, sitting on paving slabs, but I want to coat it with something to make sure it never rots like the old carp one that I just demolished. What would work that doesn't cost an armaleggon?

i would lift it, last one i did sat on slate as a damp break... that will make as much difference as any extra treatment... unless you can still find some proper creosote

Creosote doesn't seem to be a thing anymore. Ronseal concentrate is supposed to make 5 litres of paint. If I doubled the concentration would that help. There's no way I need 5 litres anyway for the base!
I wish I had some slate though!

I put some lengths of 3x2 pressure treated lumber under the floor on mine to act as a sacrificial base that could be replaced when it rotted, still sound 10 years later

We bought a shed around 1982, took it to house we moved to in 87, then moved it here in 2017. Only then did I decide to do summat about the floor, but it survived all that time

As said, it needs to be lifted off the slabs with something non-porous, slates are good, but ceramic tiles would be an alternative. If you can find plastic pallets, they will allow airflow underneath.

It was worse than i thought so i ended up jacking the frame up and chopping the floor out. I'm off too Wickes tomorrow too search out some decent timber. I reckon it's all down too an enclosed base, so i'll make it a little higher and leave the sides open for through flow

but you will never get underneath so choose your materials wisely but 3x2 plastic is the better option for building the floors if not there is an altenative by moving the water away via another way

I built a base for mine out of 4 by 2, then placed that on brick, still fine after 10 years

Just got a load of shed paint, and I'll give it several coats, bought some screws from screwfix then nipped round the back of topps tiles and got a pile of ceramic tiles from the disposal crate. That should hopefully do it!

Buy a sheet of stork board, cut up into strips to lift the wood off the slabs, paint with any oil based product you choose. Black jack is what I use on the bottom of field shelters, seems to work.

Ha. So it does exist! Sadly I only need about a litre though, 20 litres is a bit ott!

The recycled plastic 4" x 2" composite joists would do well. Even composite decking boards (usually 25mm thick) would allow the air to flow.

Go down the local picnic area after dark with an impact driver, an adjustable spanner and your 'I am not a dogger' T-shirt for a selection.

for ease I'd just use a double paint coated 50x25mm steel box laid on it's side.... .....doesnt need to be a welded frame.....
but metal framing would have been my first choice anyway.....
even treated wood is carp.....
