Oxypropane, once the metal is red hot the oxygen is what makes it cut.

If you're cutting 20mm, acetylene will be better than propane as you'll get a cleaner cut...so much less cleaning up with the grinder afterwards!

Acetylene nozzles give a Cleaner cut than propane nozzles in my experience. I've used both extensively. Funnily enough I used the propane torch to slice a piece 5mm yesterday, for the first time in bob knows how long, simply because it was to hand. I very quickly wished I'd had acetylene, then wished I'd bothered dragging out the plasma cutter since I didn't have acetylene. It cut, but much slower and messier than if I'd had my acetylene torch set up.

For us its the speed the oxy/aceteylene can cut or heat steel when working in confined spaces, like spot heating or cutting rusted nuts off manifolds in position, propane would take an age and probably cook everything in sight.
