I have impulsively bought a milling machine ![doh! ](/forum/styles/smilies/doh.gif)
I was bidding on a couple of bits on an auction and about an hour before the auction ended, the auction house sent an email saying all lots with no bids on them, have had their starting prices reduced.
I chucked in a little bid in and somehow won the milling machine lot!
Here is the photo from the auction house.
I am collecting the mill on Tuesday 28 May from Chard.
I searched for the SEMCO mill manuals but could not find much.
I then contacted SEMCO asking for a manual and fair play to them, they provided me with copies the next day. Great service!
Some manufacturers are less than helpful, especially on older machines.
No wonder I could not find any SEMCO manuals, it seems like the machines are sold as FIRST machines or as SHARP by 'LONG CHANG MACHINERY LTD'.
The manuals I received are FIRST manuals.
I have attached them here in case somebody else also needs the manuals.
I currently have an Elliott TV2 mill and I DEFINITELY do not have space for two mills. One will have to go.
Things I like about the Elliott:
1. Riser block
2. Slotting attachment (still have not used it)
3. It is already set up for VFD use
4. It is already on feet so I can move it on a pallet truck if needed
5. Modern DRO installed (Chinese but it works well)
6. I already have BT30/ISO30/I.S.T30 tool holders (whatever it is called, they all have the same taper)
Things I like about the SEMCO LC:
1. 'Chip' tray
2. Guards around the table to help prevent chips from flying everywhere
3. Head tilt front and back (don't know if I will ever use it though)
4. Slightly larger table and table traverse are more too
To aid me in deciding I looked at the specifications of both machines.
ELLIOTT TV2
SEMCO LC 1½
Comparison Table
I don't know the motor size on the SEMCO or the spindle taper (can be R8 or N.S.T 30). I hope it is N.S.T 30.
Once I have the machine home, I can look at a few more things to see which mill I prefer.
