If the weather is nice I'll go kayak fishing on the West Coast. Had some real experiences - bull seals look huge right next to you, and one day went in with a big swell running - one minute you could see miles, the next, nothing but angry sea - I chickened out...
Another time I was drifting south nicely on the tide, went in to the beach to check in with Mrs mm, went back out saying I would paddle north and drift back down again. Well an hour later I felt the sea "changing", I looked towards the coast and booga, I was drifting North - quickly. An hours hard paddling later, I started to get sight of the beach I'd started from. One of the local fishermen who'd come in earlier asked me how I'd got on - knowing full well what had happened and why. Beware the changing tides.
