Because I just don't have enough hobbies.
Going to have a bash at this. Bought most bits from someone who was giving it up, all fairly decent stuff.
What should i use for a disgorger? The Gemini type seem popular - not sure how sucessful they would be when its all shoved down a fish's throat
Any hints![]()
Beach fishing, we're close to the East Coast, so plenty of places to choose from.Long artery forceps are a good general unhooking tool.
Where are you fishing from, what are you fishing for?
If you’re doing catch and release for sustainability, a tiny trawler will haul in a single netload more fish than you will ever catch in a lifetime of rod fishing. You might as well take them home, presuming legal size, and eat that instead of supermarket cod. Nothing better than fresh sea fish.
Not been disturbed by the dolphins yet though...
Cod will be in soon. Get the peeler crab out there!Beach fishing, we're close to the East Coast, so plenty of places to choose from.

In a previous life I took a lot of hooks out of dogs. In general, you’ll cause a lot less trauma by pushing the hook fully through, cutting the barb off and then withdrawing, than you will by trying to pull it out against the barb.I was fishing and a kid got hooked in the eyelid, his dad tried getting the hook out with a with a
discorger before running off to his car to get pliers to cut the hook. Another old bloke told him he
needed to cut the hook. I stepped in with a pair of Spencer Wells and had no trouble getting the hook out.
I had a look for a fishing rod[my brother must have taken them] as I thought I could ride
down to the coast and get fridays dinner, I eat mackerel on fridays.
What bait and tackle is best for smoked peppered mackerel?
99% of my fishing has been done on lugworm, and on very rare occasion king rag. Caught all sorts on it.Which is the most sucessful, lug or rag?
I have a few lures which i might have a go with too
if you catch mackerel ware gloves. something on your skin destroys the mucas membraine on them and they will die anywayNo i'll be putting them back
Don't worry Mr Heron will soon have them .Some fish die anyway if they are caught and released - especially mackerel, which are very sensitive to temperature change from being handled.
I fish for the pot, never see the point in catch and release. Interestingly, the coarse fishermen nowdays often have to use release mats to lay their fish on, and have sophisticated disgorging tools and barbless hooks. It still can’t be a pleasant experience for the fish though.
(On an almost completely unrelated note, I cross a stream every day on my dog walk, and for the last six months have often seen a goldfish swimming around. And it seems to have grown, it’s about 5” long now).
