If anyone (@mtt.tr @MetalMonkey) needs a series rear tub for converting then there's one here I saved from the scrap man a couple of weeks ago looking for a home. Possibly have some more series truck cab bits as well in due course.

Should have mentioned it's a 88" tub, unless he wants to follow the trend and convert to a flatbed style! Needs new floor and crossmembers if its to go back on as a full tub but rest of it pretty good consider it's been around since 1963.

Just thought I'd say I'm mightily impressed after chatting with Luke @ LOF Clutches yesterday.

The clutch on the SL35 is the wrong spline count, although a 10.5" V8 clutch it's for an R380. Thought pah - why try to figure out what part I need and phone an expert. Very helpful and explained what the vehicle was etc., so we figured out what was needed (LT95 sprung clutch friction plate but Td5 cover plate). Whilst I was on the phone he was pulling apart kits and assembling a bespoke one and said it would be with me today .

Already have an unused Td5 cover plate that came with the engine but given the kit includes a new release bearing etc., and the old setup looks distinctly "used" it was easier to get the whole kit and replace the whole schebang. So have spare Td5 cover plate and R380 V8 friction plate if anyone wants it or just keep them as "spares" for something or other.

Well the new clutch setup from LOF showed up

Then there's a sense of deja-vu happening here. The friend I bought the SL35 had to do some similar chopping to a brand-spanking new Defender V8 R380 bell-housing (which is no longer required since he sold the engine ).

This particular bell-housing has been a little abused by previous owners - there's a chunk missing near the clutch slave, the inside has obviously been hit by a flywheel at some point as well. So I've cannibilised it further (no photos yet) by lopping a chunk out to allow the starter motor to work.

The LOF clutch kit also includes an up-rated release bearing and much nicer (at least looks like it) clip to hold it in so an extra hole had to be drilled inside the clutch fork.

Then a set of keys for the FAAC rams for my gate showed up so I spent the rest of the afternoon farting around with those

Quick offer up - thought I was going to have major issues with the alternator / PAS box but I think it might just clear. If it doesn't I have a spare 4 bolt PAS box which is considerably smaller, if that doesn't work then might have to go P38 style PAS or maybe one of our custom remote control electric power steering columns . The sun set and it got cold, the rope looked decidedly dodgy for leaving it suspended for a few days so decided to pull it back out but it looks amazingly like the engine mounts will line up. The way they've been chopped about made me think they weren't in the factory position as this SL35 adapter kit should marry up with a Rover V8 engine mounts which is what this should have been.

But then in a twist the plasterers finished the last wall in the workshop so the decision was made to bring the Sandringham down into the workshop. Little bit of faf getting the new workbench courtesy of @MattH in, I could get it in the door with the 2CX but it's too big to make the turn with the pallet forks horizontal let along with an 8ft table on the end. Anyway a neighbour has a little pivot loader that could lift 2t so he nipped up and was able to move it further down. Must be getting old - I thought I'd be able to drag the table into position, Matt reckoned it's only 1.2t afterall .

So at least it's indoors now and I need to move a few tools down when I get the chance and hopefully get the engine installed.

I’m after a defender truck cab headlining if you come across one @sako243 . Had a clear out and I suspect the one I had went in a bundle of misc crap. Doesn’t have to be too tidy, as I may glass it up with a radio housing in etc

Need to do all the plumbing, fabricate a new alternator mount, a new PAS pump mount but importantly the thing fits...

No update per se because I've been busy playing helping out a mate who's desperately short of drivers. The 21t machine in the background has been struggling in places ripping through some veins of rock so there is a 40t machine in reserve. The biggest problem might be whether he's got a small enough bucket to load the dumpers .

Based off the fact I shifted 4 loads on my own whilst the other dumper driver was on a 10 minute phone call we're shifting about 2000t give or take a couple of hundred a day. They were there for at least a week before I got called up and we've got another 3.7m to go down across the vast majority of the site (about 3x the size of what you can see).

But there has been a new demountable thingy acquired for the back of the 6x6 - well agreed to, but he's got a new one arriving in 8ish weeks so we'll deal with it then. So I've got about 2 months to get the 6x6 up and running...

He said it will just about lift a bulk bag of sand at full reach (6.2m). With full height being ~8.2m the hope is it'll mostly pay for itself when the house gets rendered by saving on the cost of hiring in a big telehandler to shift render etc., up to the eaves of the house which it'll just about reach.

Plus it'll probably be useful later on



Oh and if I don't get on with it a certain notorious acquirer of tools / machinery has already said he'd buy it if I don't want it

I've tried very hard with 'Secrets of the transport Museum'. Just my sort of programme but there's just something about it maybe the voce over or the people actually carrying out the work I just can't put my finger on it. I'll maybe give it another go.

It's symptomatic of every programme of this nature these days. The script is are clearly written by people with no grasp of the English language. A few weeks ago I happen to watch an episode. The commentary that started something like "John is the brain child of this project..." finished it for me.

i realize im a little late to the party but this pic caught my attention as i was reading through this thread as im collecting bits to build a 6 wheel drive jimny pickup, does anyone have any info on how the drive train is arranged ?

Don't the Jimnys use an LT230 as well? There's a fair few conversions that use the PTO.

That's assuming it's actually 6x6 rather than 6x4.

wouldent have thought so the jimny has a teeny weeny remote transfer box that is chain drive that has a tendency to stretch and jump the teeth i was going to either use an sj transfer box or better still a vitara gearbox
