Peel rubber back,
clean rusty paint,
Apply dollop fibey bodge to seal hole (p40 etc)
Should stop any water getting in till better weather

Leave it alone for a few years, it'll be easier to get the windscreen out!

As others have said, there's little point doing anything other than a full repair. The reason being that the start of the rust is likely well beyond where you can get to and the tired rubber is going to keep wicking moisture to it regardless of what you do. Plus there'll undoubtedly be others hiding behind there when the screen is removed. Unless your really lucky and can pull the rubber back and see unrusted material beyond where you can get at. Then it's definitely worth a go at cleaning and protecting.

Things that might well help are to reduce the water getting to it.

Is it/can it be garaged?
Duct tape over the seal?
Some sealant squirted around to reseal (I hate this idea, it's very temporary and is making work for yourself, unless you intend to scrap it before it gets done)

If you choose to do nothing, while doing nothing, it is worth monitoring. Maybe the deterioration is slow enough that changes are the truck will die of something else before surgery anyway. The vehicular equivalent of an enlarged prostate.

It's a 3rd gen, but the version without the extra plastic trim, no plastic wheelarch bits, and same front brakes as the LN130 (a KZN185G, compared to your KZN185W, I think)

Ah, the rust might not be too bad then - the bonding should have stopped water ingress from getting right into the channel (rubber seals allow water underneath more easily)......maybe the rust you see is the result of cackhanded screen fitting (a tool run along the side of the screen when fitting the finisher trim maybe)....tool scores the paint and bingo...
But you may well also find that the finisher trim has ended up bonded on the rear side to the screen making intact removal of the trim trickier....

I think this is the trim for a Surf so they are at least still available.
