As mentioned elsewhere in this section, I bought a Rapidar hacksaw for £36 off of ebay. Here it is.
I intend to repair and generally do it up a bit, it seems that there are quite a few people on the forum with experience of these beasties so thought I would start a thread so I can pick their brains if needed. This may be slow going as I have quite a few other projects plus work and kids however I don't think it will be a huge job.........
The intention is to make it servicable but I will tart it up a bit too. It was originally a silver grey colour, then its seems to have been painted white and finally blue so will probably take it back to the oringinal hue.
First off, its 3 phase, looks lile the original motor so I'm just looking to see if I can use an inverter on the orginal, or swap it for a 3 phase that is VFD friendly or just stick in a single phase motor.
Here's the existing motor and its plate 3 phase, 1420rpm, 0.5hp.
Here's the lid to the terminals on the motor, its seen some action, the casing is a bit chipped at the top
Inside there are A, B and C connectors and earth which implies its windings are star connected I believe.
Other bits, I think this stagnant pool is to collect what drops from the arms etc. above as the suds reservoir is below. The pin sticking up is pushed by a cam when the arm is going and powers the suds pump below.
The shelf above the motor that the suds reservoir sits on is a piece of timber, I wonder if this is original?
it took a while to dig through years of filings to find the suds drain hole so its unlikely that its been used for a while so pump maybe knackered
Broken bits (so far)
Right hand side of the foot chipped off and the casting between the two rear legs is snapped near the right hand leg
Pulley chipped, will probably be OK but I'll have a closer look when I get it to bits.
Cheers
Andy
