What did I do wrong? I’m just showing you everything is clean. You might say to me. Shouldn’t be any paint stains left over anywhere. Should be cleaner. Im not the expert here. I might need to be spraying with my cup filter fitted incase some particles were blocking the tip. I filtered everything though so I can’t see why?Have it your way. Were trying to help. Im out
Maybe? I did wonder that because I tried it with my 1.5 in the past and it was no better with that. So that’s 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 it’s been through now. I tried it with my suction fed 1.8 earlier and it laid it on smooth but it spat then I got a massive run. I need to strip that gun down and check it over. It shouldn’t be struggling with basecoat and barcoat. I had the container 1/4 full of paint and kept the gun vertical. I could understand if it was really thick primer.Maybe you need the 1.8 set up because of the size of the flake in the paint.
Ok. I’ll get my orbital sander on an empty thinners can I have.Find something other than the cardboard to test spray on. Something that isn't absorbent, the panel your trying to paint isn't. Look at this thread from a few years ago. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/base-coat-clear-coat-help.32557/
your trying to be too fusy. did it for a living and get away with most things.Reading the tech sheet for the basecoat it says use Devilbiss JGA 30EX. This is a pressure fed 1.8mm tipped gun or equivalent. I’m wondering if I should see what the coverage is like with my 1.8mm suction feed gun. Maybe this basecoat requires a larger tip for best smoothness? Maybe it would be a big mistake to try this?

I couldn’t see it lying flat over this pitting. This area was still showing pitting after a while of sanding. The rest of the panel was ok.are you expecting this bascoat to go on dead smooth with a sheen ? it doent need to , while you dont want it to look like 40 grit it can be a bit dry and peely looking , as long as its even the clear will sort it out
