i wouldnt have one without a clutchY'know what I have loads of pics of the machine but none of them show the pulley.
I think it would be a step back for you anyway TBH I would certainly go the VFD and 3-phase motor route. I don't think I would ever want a lathe now without variable speed.

here is the guide either side of the belt to give you the idea. no need for the jockey wheel to tighten the belt as you use the motor to tighten and slacken the belt
