Got the belt pulley arm refitted today. Still need to whip the bearings out and replace them. Cranked arm's back on too.
Made a start on scraping the overpaint off the large gear too, until I ran out of time.
Only half done upto just.

Does anyone know of a decent supplier for imperial woodruff keys? Trying to decide whether to make a couple or just order some. I think they're 1-1/2" x 1/4" keys I'm after, (they're just under 1-1/2" in length, so I'm guessing they're 1-1/2" keys, as I seem to recall there's some weird measuring method for keys above 1" or so?).
On another note, the packing shims for the slides. Going to make up fresh ones for these machines, but wanted to ask whether leather would be a suitable material to use? Been looking round, and it's easy enough to get hold of 3mm thick leather strip, so rather than using composite gasket material, was thinking of going down the leather route if plausible. Opinions welcome.
Just on a slight deviation, the slides for the Minor and Major are the same dimensions. Thought that pointless nugget might come in handy if anyone's looking round for a scrap machine for spares in the future.
They're both 7/8" x 19-3/4".

u can maker the packing shims out of plywood and wind the nuts down till the guide bars are a nice slide fit thats what mine are

Hadn't considered using ply, but now you mention it, think I might well go that route. It'll be a damned sight easier to make them from that than owt else. Cheers.

Well, I've become a bit sidetracked with this one. Decided that making these shims up was the prime opportunity to get off my **** and finish restoring that Meddings scroll saw so that I could cut them out, so made a start on that, and can't do much more with this until I get those sorted. (Yes, I know I could just use a hand saw or the like, but that would mean skipping the opportunity to finally get the Meddings sorted ).
So..., decided I'd start cleaning up the Minor and putting that back together in the interim period. It was gunked up to hell, but not much rust barring some minor surface rust on the front leg, so thought I'd just clean and use as is for the time being. The bearing is well and truly shagged though, hence the following question. Is there anywhere which anyone knows of whom stocks oilite bearings 1-1/4" I.D x 1-5/8" O.D x 3-1/4" L? The shaft is actually slightly larger than 1-1/4", but decided to go for that with it being a standard size, and either bore out the bearing to fit the shaft else turn down the shaft to fit the bearing and get rid of that pointless weird sized centre section where it goes through the bearing. It's 1-1/4" both at the taper and pulley end, but they decided to make the centre section a 'not a cat in hells chance of getting owt that bore as standard' type size. Haven't been able to find any place stocking bushes of that length though, and the cored rods seem to both skip 1-1/4" bore and have stupidly high prices to boot. Hence what should be a fairly simple task is becoming a bit of a chore.

Did consider that initially, but the only thing which made me a bit wary of going that route is that the bearing is also the pivot for the slide assembly, so I'm guessing that could lead to it being a bit weak and also possibly some bad scoring or such on the shaft later down the line, when one or more of the bearings start to wear.
I bought a length of phosphor bronze tube. Its big enough for two main bearings but it requires some machining.
A mate is going to machine it out for me when he gets a minute but i dont know how long it will take. Im prepared to sell the other half for what it cost me (think it will be about £30) if thats any good?
This will require machining as well - but really needs doing to match your parts.

On the plus side, it hopefully shouldn't be long before I get the Meddings sorted. Still done naff all else with the Rapidor though.
Those Meddings scroll saws are weird beasts. Chunkily enough built, but they seem to have some odd little design quirks which just make it seem as if the designer got bored part way through designing it and lost interest. This is it at the moment.
The pulleys and motor aren't the original ones. Larger pulley needs a sleeve making so that it'll fit the shaft, but using those and ditching the four step pulley setup for the time being. I've adapted the top cylinder slightly too, to remove the NRV for the blower from the cylinder itself so that I can implement that externally, (the original seemed a tad erratic in operation), and going to fit an air filter for the cylinder inlets then pipe them both to it.

The Meddings is now close to completion, so shouldn't be too long before I can finally give that it's maiden run in current form.
Made this little air filter assembly for it:
in the hope that it will prevent it from doing what the original design allowed, in that it could suck no end of wood dust into the crank housing. Not a good combo where moving parts and oil are concerned.
