OK, at home again (first time this week) and the access cover off the bellhousing. A bent sensor and a ******** set of teeth (but in a different place to that I replaced!)
However, the fact it ran gave me confidence it was the crank position sensor that is the problem.
So, two options:
1. Remove box replace sensor and flywheel with new (to me) set of pegs (lots of hassle and time)
2. Go for "megasquirt" type trigger wheel (see previous postings) and put a new sensor on the front crank pulley (probably less hassle, but how do I time it?)
Hmmm!
Cheers
Peter
