Quite a big drill

I have a Asquith ra drill like the one on the left. I like the blue drill more.
To put it in perspective the Asquith is 10’ tall and six tonnes!

ohh Asquith drills, back in the day over 30 of them went to Australia to be used for making the Sydney harbour bridge. Now you dont need to get a spade out to dig a big hole, you can just drill one

That will drill the hole with a drill you don’t need a crane to install, far more accurately

Sometimes the right tool for the job is still a honkin great big radial arm drill... We have an Asquith OD1 and a K&W of similar size in our shop, still used daily Yes you could probably use a lesser machine for our needs... but why would you want to?

Actually it’s handy to have a ra drill to drill and tap billets for lifting eyes to then be able to load said cnc
Your not limited to size with the drill either as workpiece is still and can be hung from a crane etc
I once drilled out broken bolts in s truck engine by tilting the cab then swinging the drill arm over the job

Handy things if you have space and proper fitting skills

A radial drill is one of the handiest machines going, when I eventually get a bigger workshop built one is right up there on the list.

We have a few of those drills at work, they look quite dinky next to the big lathe (5m swing) but when you try and pick up the drill bits you realise the scale of those things

Looks like a monster. I’d sooner have ra drill over a pillar drill, much more versatile just a shame they take up so much space.

I’ve got access to a k&w g80 and although I’ve not used it for a while last time I used it was to put some 1mm holes into some large casing for NDT. Wasn’t really another way of doing it…

Edit, that’s a 5t chain block for scale on the bed and a 6 step platform to reach the controls…
