When I fit the strings I always push them in folded in half so when I pull the tool out there is two bits of the string in the hole with a loop inside. With the effort involved to get them through like that I can't ever see them coming out. I've taken quite a few tyres off with them and there is always a nice sticky blob on the inside.I have seen people stick them so there is only one thickness in the hole.
I've used them on a JCB Loadall tyre that had run over a piece if steel sticking out of the ground in a gateway. The tyres were due to be replaced but I think we 8-10 strings in the hole and were able to pump it up enough to get home.

To be honest I thought you had to use them doubled up as that is way I have always done it?

Basically an old tyre carcasse that's worn out, then had new tread glued on.But a re-mould is a used tyre !
I'd never buy either because I've seen far too many re-mould crocodiles & black hoola hoops by the side of dual carriageways and motorways of the UK, Europe and elsewhere.
I can't, for the life of me, imagine why anybody would trust their life, and their kids lives, on such things. Let alone brag about it.......

I can't see any other way to use them.
It’s possible to push them in so only one tail is sticking out. I always thought they should be doubled too. When you pull out a nail or screw jam one in with two tails sticking out I cannot see how it’s ever coming out on it’s own.I can't see any other way to use them.

I had a mushroom head patch come off when I got a puncture and had the tyre go almost dead flat. The tyre was near to the end of it's life anyway so instead of stopping to plug it I just rode on home. By the time I got home it was pretty well shagged and I swapped the tyre out. Found thhe offending screw and also found the head of the repair plug from an earlier puncture floating around inside.
Real life experience of running Colway and then Kingpin, winter remoulds from October to March on a reasonably high performance car over 25 years - no failures, no lifting treads, no sidewall cracks, no cords poking through, no missing tread blocks. On wet roads, dry roads, motorways, back roads, rough roads, off-road (well, into fields and farmers tracks) towing a trailer to trials events etc, at one point a regular commute to Aachen in Germany from Yorkshire - and after a slidely moment on Bridgestone SO2s in snow in Germany, on went the Colways!. Two repaired punctures in all that time, wore every one of them to a point they weren't too good as winter tyres - and still sold two sets on.
The ones on the trials car get some serious abuse - running as low as 2psi when allowed, surprisingly low number of punctures, very few instances of sidewall damaged.
So I'm not anti-remould at all - just pick the makes you buy - and since those two companies went down, I haven't needed to buy any, so I've not looked.
But I wouldn't take decent, round, black, good visual condition, holding pressure, tyres off a car to fit them for normal use!

Truck remould failures caught at inspection time, next time you are trying to save fuel by matching the trucks speed, think of these tyres and bugger off asap!

As well as parking up with a flat for a long time such as a month or so or parking on hard standing with a fully loaded truck for a long weekend then driving off not having checked your tyres

All at full pressure on drive axle 90psi 295 tyres, it was happening to the NSR inner tyres only and only on the 63 plate motors, we never did find out why and it has not happened again, after about 30 odd had the same fault over a few months.

Another one, trailer axle this time as on drums, depth gauge showing the depth of the split, again full pressure 125psi in this case.

Stress on the tre because of the lenght of the lever age after the dolly pin inthe turn table going round alot of mini round abouts
Basingstoke ( 1970's ?) used to be called UK's donut city because of the large number of new mini roundabouts you had to negotiate when driving in the area .
At the time it was also noted that there was a large increase in tyre wear & damage and wear on NSR tyres , attributed to going too hard and fast into the roundabouts.
Could this be responsible if it was the same set of drivers getting the same problems ?

looks like the first group was either inside on a single wheel or on the facing sidewalls on a twin?

In the main yes, the older drivers tend to hop in and go and this is what you get, but of course this did not just happen so several drivers are at fault.

Mainly facing sidewalls, but have had some on the inner tyre inner side only.

her indoors drove 3 miles on a dual carriageway yesterday with low tyre pressure warning on......thought it would be ok
I eventually had to rescue her at the local gym car park after 2 blokes who'd just finished their workout failed to help her get the wheel off
..........could not undo the wheel bolts. I kid you not.
Anyway, screw in tyre was the culprit, but the 2 month old tyre internals was toast after she drove on it until she parked up
