I've gotten a bit distracted with horse brasses of late but not forgotten about the sign. Currently the pub is without a sign. The old one is up against the side wall and in a sorry state:

The big problem here is the pub is I think the second highest point in Kent. The sign gets battered by the weather. Nothing lasts. Right on the North Downs Way.
It has to be visible from two sides. I keep thinking plasma cut stainless with a "coloured" centre panel.
Currently mulling the problem over my second British Bulldog...

Sounds expensive! Ideally she wants a regular who runs a firm that does that sort of thing.
What plastic and how would you fuse one to the other?
You've given me an idea though, stained glass could look amazing...

I suspect that stained glass wouldn't last five minutes these days .......... too many , " Thugletts & Richard Craniums " around ...
Use acrylic plastic and the correct glues to fuse the acrylics such as a solvent based glue which melts both surfaces on the whole sign in a well made marine grade stainless steel frame so it won't rust out . You could allso cut up a picture and glue it to different sheets of acrylic then fret saw by hand or use a small hobby machine to cut the parts to size .. smooth the edges . If you get two pictures for each side you'll be able to cut to the correct side of a line so you get a perfect shape.
Personally I'd try and get a printed skin copy of it to a 1/8 " thick sheet of white enamelled both sides steel , then enamel paint the sign on the white back ground and find someone with a big kiln or work out a way to use an oxy cutting torch to melt the enamelling to the white back ground . There's bound to be some crazy Yank or Polish guy doing such stuff on you tube .. modify what they are doing so it's safer and better.

The artistic/autistic youngest is going to have a go at recreating one of her Sun sketches on a 4'x3' (exactly) "canvas":
The "canvas" then: I have a bit of 3/4" phenolic resin plywood cut to size and so far a bit of old ali caravan side cut to the same, 4'x3' size:
There's a silver, "aluminium" side to the metal (funnily enough
) and a dimply, rough, non slip side to the resin board.
Then there's a "blue" side on the ali, it's not a film, and a smooth side on the resin board:
I have here plenty of 2K etch primer and activator. The ali faces will be sanded down.
What I need help with is how to stick the ali down to both the rough and smooth sides of the resin board as the sign will be double sided.

I'd use a rubber mallet, go easy on it. You don't want to start bashing it with anything harder or you'll risk spreading the metal and compounding the problem.

Pub related, as I've just come back from it...
Looking to do a Coronation celebration up the pub to mark King Charles III ascension to the throne. Live band, food etc.
Sat 6 May is the actual coronation. Everyone will be at home watching on the telly.
Sun 7 there'll be numerous street parties.
Mon 8, I believe the King has suggested it be a day for charity work etc. Plus folk have to go to work on Monday.
The plan then is maybe Sat 13th as a late celebration. We were all trying to think of a catchy name for it to go on the posters.
Charlie's Bash, Coronation Celebration etc.
Any ideas welcome!

Back on the pub sign. Got one of the elves assisting.

Anodised? It's roughed up OK. Hoping the Puraflex 40 pu sealant and adhesive will stick. Going to back it up with a load of stainless panel pins.

Bonded the ali to the board... hopefully! Further secured with a load of 30mm stainless panel pins. They've punched through the other side so I'll whip those off with the grinding when the pu glue has set. The ali sheet is slightly off size wise to the board so I'll dress the edges. Then it's ali sheet the other side. I'll need shorter pins for that. Once both sides are done daughter will roller some etch primer on and have a blank canvas.
