We've had a few freebies on the back of it!
Quite nice that in the nearly two weeks the sign's been up, there's been a gradual upturn in passing custom / awareness.
I was up there early one morning this bank holiday weekend (touching up the sign frame) and had a cyclist couple screech to a halt with the cry of "Eff me, there's a pub there! All these years we've been passing it etc!" That particular chap threatened to bring his other half up for a romantic date night...
Two more rode passed saying much the same thing but didn't stop. I was up there circa 09.30 and there was close on a dozen people came by, most amazed the pub was even there.
There's been walkers who've come in saying pretty much the same thing. Plus that they knew it was a pub once but thought it long since converted into a private house. The pub is a few yards down the road from a footpath exit/entrance, in fact the footpath is opposite the pub car park. The car park just looks like a farmyard really. Hopefully the strategically placed couple of signs will help.
Pity if they miss it as they're just yards from a sun trap beer garden and as one walker put it "the best homemade ice cream" she's ever had. I had to point out it's actually gelato

There's a story from years ago when the pub was renowned for it's food. It's basically a farm with a pub attached. One of their prize sows just keeled over dead. Picture a packed beer garden on a sweltering summer's day.
The late landlord got his tractor and spiked the dead pig with baling forks. He then happily trundled down the road with the forks held high. For all intents and purposes it looked like the pig was flying just above the hedge.

Next up is a pair of "blackboard" esque signs to go outside the pub. I've a pair of picture frames I've cut down to roughly 720x550 (daughter decided the sizes).
I've only had to cut down one side. Did it as accurately as I could on the Evolution chop saw but set the blade with a 45deg gauge rather than rely on the saw's inbuilt stops.
I've to remake four of these joints now hence I'm looking for a picture framing tool over on the tools wanted section.
Maybe I just cut and drill some stainless L brackets from sheet?
These will have a sheet of aluminium in (more caravan side), be etch primed, matt blacked then sign written / decorated and varnished.

Tonight daughter and I glued and pinned the two cut down picture frames with expanding pu Gorilla glue. It's square 'ish...rustic is the theme.
I then cut a couple of bits of aluminium caravan side. I cut it 5mm undersize to allow for the wood getting wet and swelling. Might have been a mistake. The ali is so thin it's like a Rolf Harris wobble board! This'll get coarse sanded and glued / pinned with battens cut on the table saw from whatever scrap timber I can find. The timber will have 3 coats of Bedec Satin Black Barn Paint. The aluminium will get etch primed. Then it's over to madam:

If you/she ever fancy a revisit they're only open Thurs, Fri, Sat (12.00 - 22.00hrs) then Sun & Bank Holidays (12.00 - 19.00hrs).
Lots of folk visit just for the home made ice cream (gelato). Landlady said last night she had one group of 18 walkers in off the North Downs Way.
Look out for me, the comparison to Michael from Hot Fuzz is though I think a little unfair...

Scored some scaffold boards. Main catch was they were caked, as in literally painted all sides, with intumescent grey paint. I planed it all off with Bosch leccy plane set to 0.5mm. Managed to hit a snapped off Gold screw under the paint and destroy one side of a pair of plane blades! Then did it again
It wasn't just painted but lumpy paint and rock hard!
The timber is "good enough" as it's for a little fence section up the pub. (Everyone generally mucks in to support the landlady etc). Thieving vandals tore the old fence down some weeks back. Tbh it ws in such poor condition it would have blown down anyway! Long, M10 black bolts and washers were also got free. Need to cut them down and weld nuts on etc. Some boards have been cut down width wise so there's some shuffling to do.
Haven't quite got enough boards but earlier today on my travels came across a massive pallet made from boards the same thickness as scaffold boards if not the same width. Asked if I could have it and they said yes no problem. Hopefully going back to collect.
Plan is to remake the fence section and very likely route The Rising Sun in it along with a large Sun motif and olde worlde arrow pointing to the entrance.
Now what I need is some free, olde worlde creosote.....

The free pallet, broken down in their yard with my trusty pallet breaker. It was bloody hard work even with that. Scaffold boards, 4" twisted nails, 3 per join. Sweating I was!

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than with No.2 daughter up the pub. We'll say it was to trial fit the pub blackboards. The fact I had 4 pints of Summer Perle is incidental...
