There is also a brace on the front for the number plate...again spot on with the bolt holes. Would have been a proper faff if these had been out I think so I'm very relieved.

Bumper back on...all sorted. It even looks good underneath too!!!

All in all its been truly an excellent day....only spoiled by the large list of DIY jobs I got given from SOMBO..."as it the easter long weekend"

Cheers JP, I definitely had some good luck I think...I used the Aircon bracket on the top of the cross member to help me but completely forgot about the radiator on the back! I definitely think the Clico clamps really helped with the alignment when putting the cross member back together...with mole grips it's very difficult to dis-assemble and reassemble exactly as before.

The clicos I have only use a 3mm hole so very easy to weld up once done.

I'm expecting a delivery tmrw...in preparation I had my friend install the 32A power plug. I only have single phase in my garage so this is about the limit of what I can run from my 240v single phase supply. Yep...it's a new compressor arriving ...I'll probably set up a separate thread for how to silence the compressor as I think i'll need to do something because it's gonna be loud!

It's Christmas in the garage today...bit of a beast. Have to wire it in still...2 of us could barely lift the thing...hard to get hold of a cylinder!

Yea...I'm going to need something because it's a 4hp motor and triple pistons! Think I'll do a separate thread on building a sound proof box maybe.

Only annoying thing is they supplied it with about 2 foot of cable so now me nice new plug socket is not in the right place

This is a bit smaller but really not too loud, it sits under the bench and I've never felt the need to silence it. Those cheap direct drive compressors are the noisy ones.

Hey mylesdw...thats a very nice little triple pump compressor you have there.

Took me about 3 hours to sort out the electrics today....working with 6mm copper cables isn't a lot of fun but got there in the end. Switched it all on and pulled the start button...the button and cover came straight off in my hand ...will have to call machine mart in the morning...so far I'm not impressed.

I managed to bodge the switch back together and hey presto she was alive. Mylesdw....your prediction was spot on....it's really not that loud. I'd say it's not much noise than a washing machine on the spin cycle. The first compressor I bought was a direct drive...2hp...but it made such a racket that I never used it and in the end I just got rid of it.

I bought the meter specifically to check the noise from the compressor...I'll start a new thread on sound insulating the compressor I think...ideally I would like to get under 70db.

You could knock up a wooded frame (2" X 2" timber) and drape/staple (air nailer/stapler ) over it some old carpet and or duvets. Just make sure to allow air flow.
Nice and quick.

Cheers Mike...I had a similar thought too. The compressor will get moved/re-housed in the near future but for now I'll have a play around to see what is achievable. I may invest in some rock wool acoustic insulation too.

Sorry for the lack of updates...with all the welding done we've moved onto paint prep. I've been getting help from "Mr C" who has decades of body work experience. He has got most of the rear quarters prepped...it is staggeringly good work. I'm learning alot watching him too...think we are now about a week away from paint . Ordered the paint...arrived today...definitely getting very exciting now.

Cheers Exuptoy...yea me too...I had to open the tin just to take a look at the colour. OK I have to admit it wouldn't be my first choice of colour....but it does really suit the lines of the car and my friend wanted an original colour so emerald green it is!

I made the call on leaving the original paint on at the top of the rear quarters...really hope we don't get any issues. We'll be doing an isolation primer first before the high build as the paint on there isn't original and could be anything!

Those plastic sheets are about £2.50 for 2 at screw fix...the magnets are so handy....I just keep buying more and more of them!

Mine are the jumbo skittle magnets....I seem to use them for all sorts of stuff but my roof is steel truss which makes magnets great for holding up sheets

As an aside, and not to take PD's thread too far OT, but thought this amusing. We all know no-one reads instructions, right? Well, for some reason [] I looked at the leaflet which came with the magnets, and quote verbatim from it.....
"Do not place these magnets up your nose or around the ears as they have soft tissue that will compress as the magnets attract through the thickness of the tissue. The magnet will compress the tissue and as the magnets get closer together, they will steadily increase in force until they cannot get any closer. This will cause considerable pain and they will be difficult to remove from the nostrils".

Really?? What has mankind come to when they need to put warnings like this like with products.
All that was required was "Do not give to 2-year-olds".......

Anyway, back to PD's good work

I bought a Peli torch when working offshore and the packaging had a warning that stated....
Not guaranteed for bear attack, shark bite...................or children under 3!!!
