My man, I’ve been following this but so far have resisted temptation to get involved as I can add anything usefullI don't think barrel nuts would work here: they depend on the threaded rod changing angle to allow the clamping action to work. The threaded rods in my dual-screw vice slide in the slide rails of the conventional vice, so they cannot change angle. Also, I don't really want them to as I want the clamping force to be perpendicular to the fixed jaw of the vice.
I think what I'll do for now is make the slotted bush have a flat face & make the bit that fits inside it be a simple cylinder. I can then add a washer between the hand wheel and the bush. If I can find a way to make it, this can be a two part washer with the middle face spherical (concave in one & convex in the other). If I can't figure out how to make it I'll put it off & worry about it later.
