Id a Monet Carlo for a while , but the back and the front couldnt decide whos turn it was to be in front .

Oh no the Integrale, wasn’t mine it was my mates, it went round corners as though it was defying the laws of physics, it was an Evolution, the last of them, back in the day it could run rings around an Escort Cosworth in the back roads, I wouldn’t have believed it if hadn’t unfortunately been in the passenger seat!

RetroRides is an online forum where you could advertise it free, very few timewasters or sharks. This kind of vehicle will be very much their cup of tea. I bought my old Audi 100, and my 205 Turbo on there.

Nothing tin-top shaped has ever felt so good a combination of ride, handling and practicality in all weathers. I was determined to sell mine a few years ago, and put the considerable gain in value, despite its mega miles, into the mortgage . . . then drove it one more time . . .

Which is why I still have mine, close to 30 yrs after buying a 16V then changing to an evo1 8 yrs or so later. First saw one as a school boy, parked in a driveway on the way home. Nothing tin-top shaped has ever felt so good a combination of ride, handling and practicality in all weathers. I was determined to sell mine a few years ago, and put the considerable gain in value, despite its mega miles, into the mortgage . . . then drove it one more time . . .

I guarantee if you ever do you’ll regret it, I’ve come to that conclusion with my 964, my kids can fight over it when I’m dust.
They just don’t make cars like that anymore, it’s not about the speed, I’ve an SUV which goes from 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, its boring!
It’s the driving experience, totally analogue and old school enjoyable, nothing stopping you from making a big mistake adds to the satisfaction of negotiating a long stretch of empty back road at a “spirited” speed.
And listening to the old engine ticking away in the background as it cools down in the garage afterwards. Ooooh yeh!

I've never had or driven a sports car, but much, much prefer the stuff before all the digital electronic crudola interfered with the driving experience and everything else (adding cost, unnecessary complexity & cost and all for a reduction in reliability and satisfaction IMO).

I did drive a friends Y-plate, straight-6, 3-Litre BMW Z3 quite a bit. Big engine at the front, rear wheel drive etc.
I found that to be a fun car when going rapidly, and engaging just to cruise around in.
I often wish I'd bought one when they were cheap.

Things have changed since then, price‘s have increased slightly! Looking forward to getting stuck in to my rebuild. I’ll document it here, apologies for the thread creep, I’ll leave it there just now and start my own in a couple of months when I eventually get my workshop finished and signed off.

You are brave Many moons ago I rebuilt a mates 930 turbo engine, that turned into a money pit. Threads in the mag casings pulled, everything is eyewateringly expensive, head studs alone were £60 each and there are over twenty of them. The engine rebuilld cost more than the car, there may well be aftermarket gear available now.. the VW/Porsche gear is not too bad, my brother came back from the states with a very comprehensive big bore rebuild kit for his 914 which included four downdraught webers and he had change out of £1500.

Sounds brilliant, reminded me of an old MK 2 Escort RS2000 I had in the 80’s
I‘d rebuilt the engine and fitted twin 40 Webber’s which had 4 barrels, a Kent cam and Janspeed exhaust, the induction roar was as intoxicating as the exhaust sound

Mine doesn’t have a mag case Bob so hopefully I can avoid line boring it, but yeh I know the prices as I’ve already started acquiring parts, big end shells are £800, head studs £900, main bearings £400, the list goes on, doing the work myself (excluding the necessary machining work) should save a bit
£400 for 2 chain tensioners ffs, I’m expecting the total to come to 5 figures, but it needs it so it’ll get it, it’s appreciated to the point that it’ll pay for itself anyway, that’s what I’ve told my wife haha

they still are ,,, they only start to get expensive when you want a hard top ,, or the real m in the front slot ,,, not just a stick on m badge at the rear ,, [z4m coupes dont actually have a badge on them ] just oodles of exhausts .

and probably gave you the full 110 hp ,, about the same as a Clio diesel today ,,, Its crazy I was watching a car show and they were looking at the rs turbo escort ,, mk 3 shape ,,, you know the one ,,, white and blue stripes etc etc etc .... it was 126 hp ,,, oh how times have changed with golfs spitting out over 300 these days ,,,

The older I get , The faster I was.

Friend bought a Z1 in the early days. Found it no faster than the saloon 2.5 it got its bits from (he had owned a Ferrari). So, gave it to BBR for a G-up. Clocked 170mph , but the suspension lowering makes it a bit tricky on the bumpy railway crossings near him . Rarely used. Wonder what it is worth?
Way, way, back, I looked at a 911S, minor front damage, easy fix. But, when I looked at the price of the exhaust system, which needed replacing, I ran away. Likely best, it was in the days when they swopped ends at any slight foot/hand foul up, so prob I would have been a statistic.

Reality is, the days of 'care free, enjoyable' motoring have dissapeared. Any quick bit of fun is rewarded by a letter in the post.

Not sure if Monet was about when that was sold. Monte Carlo? Liked it , but like many mid engined cars, the limits get a bit close...Nice corner, or in the ditch. Back to Porsche products, not unknown to dump you in the ditch, before electronics tamed them. Basicly an unsound idea, like the Beetle, with a pretty undeserved rep for reliability.
