Not sure if Monet was about when that was sold. Monte Carlo? Liked it , but like many mid engined cars, the limits get a bit close...Nice corner, or in the ditch. Back to Porsche products, not unknown to dump you in the ditch, before electronics tamed them. Basicly an unsound idea, like the Beetle, with a pretty undeserved rep for reliability.

To be devils advocate, a Porsche has never dumped anyone in a ditch and the idea is not unsound.
Its the weakest link in the drivers seat who dumped it in a ditch because they didn‘t understand the chassis dynamics of having a lump of weight at the other end of the car and tried to drive it like a front engined car is where the problem lay.

If they were so unstable why have they held the record for the fastest car around the Nurburgring for practically as long as I can remember.

Yup the dont want the apex seals getting too comfy at normal pressure so best to really tease them out with some high pressure lol

Wonder if anyone has done a Allen Millyard style 20B

is the inspiration. its running 520hp and has been perfectly reliable... more so than its piston engined competitors. when the time comes im going to pay clive to supply the kit, including a clone of his race engine.... a 13b rew from a rx7 FD with a few tweaks and the worlds biggest turbo

Very true. I've had a Beta coupe and a Delta HF Turbo (almost a 2 wheel drive Integrale, in Martini colours) managed to put both of them off the road when the back end decided to swap with the front. I saw a buyers guide for the Delta "Check the boot floor isn't crumpled - a lot of these cars go off the road backwards at high speed". Lad I sold the Delta to put it though a hedge backwards a month after he bought it off me.

Lancia are amazing cars if you like front-wheel-drive, my performance cars have always been rear-wheel-drive so it took a long time before I adjusted my driving style and trusted the handling of the Lancias.

I love front wheel drive cars , but the Monte Carlos coupes issue was the brakes , it didnt really need a pedal , just an on off switch it would have been more predictable ,, but even in gold it looked amazing.

The mark 1 Monte Carlos had a brake servo that acted just on the front and they locked up with ease.
Lancia discontinued the mark 1, thought about it for a couple of years, then brought out the Mark 2 which just had the servo removed.
It improved the brakes a bit, but never fully sorted the problem.

I've a couple of them waiting in the wings for when / if I ever finish one of my current projects (alfa 75 and integrale)

The unsound bit is too much weight aft of the rear axle. The 904 was good, because they put the donk forward of the axle, like the Boxter, but every time they tried making a well balanced car, like the 928 or the other front engined cars, they got into trouble because their core market didn't think they were hairy-chested Porsches.

Odd item of info... The 911 wasn't the correct design number, but any number with a 0 in the middle was locked in by Peugeot for production cars, so they just used the first number after that.
As for the 'Ring, pro drivers with lotta horses.

They still see off most other sports cars around a race track though and hold an incredible number of top draw race wins, Those engines are ridiculously light, I can wrestle an undressed flat six onto the bench on my own, the gearbox probably weighs as much and thats forward of the rear wheel centre line. As wrong as the concept is they have somehow made it work

On the HF, I was fitting some stuff for a client, but one of the circuit boards was duff out of the box. 'I know tomorrow is Sunday, but would you mind?' Fine, meet you outside the importers at 10. So I turn up and the importer has the Italian manufacturer in tow and would we mind if he came to see the installation. Me 'Ask the client, as that is him arriving' 'No prob', says client 'I will run you all back to my place, save taking several cars'
So we get onto the main coast road and he gets moving. The HF had been chipped and I lean over as we were 'travelling'.
265 kph. Not been that fast since, the Italian guy was reasonably impressed too. Thing was, he was one of the best drivers I met down there. Most were scary at normal speeds.
