why not put a part worn tyre on it and the cheapest exhaust you can find and sell it as a runner with mot...even scruffy ones are 4k plus

This. For small effort and minimal outlay, get an MOT and you'll get way more than scrap value. If I wasn't up to my neck in the XR4i I would be lining your palm nicely this very second.
as above for humble outlay you could reap way better benefits , thats all the guys who low ball you will do with it any way ,,, so you may as well have the cash as them. I would consider 1 tyre and an exhaust as a very cheap mot on a sports car.
But then you need to insure the thing to get it to and from the repair and MOT . . . and then tax it for test drives . . . you could easily spend more than you get back . . . especially when the retest finds something new . . .
Slap it on ebay and see . . .

My mate calls it a Beetle, it’s slightly more powerful though 3.6 964 engine, it’s coming out next year for a full rebuild due to oil starvation on the left cam bank.
Ive looked into water cooled 911s recently with a view to buying one ,, after a bit of looking Im not sure I would want one as a gift . Cayman's fell by the wayside too . The more I look at a new car or more accurately a new to me car , the less I want one. I think the days of no bother cars has come and gone now .

Why? I’m building one from a pile of rust and it’s cost me a fraction of what buying one done would, as long as you can sort it yourself they’re not exactly expensive to run

When I bought mine in 2007, they were not the most fashionable of the 911’s
Things have changed since then, price‘s have increased slightly! Looking forward to getting stuck in to my rebuild. I’ll document it here, apologies for the thread creep, I’ll leave it there just now and start my own in a couple of months when I eventually get my workshop finished and signed off.

My brother in law is regularly saying to me how much he wants a Caymen, with my experience of Porsches, I advise him if a 10 grand engine rebuild is financially out of the question don’t do it, I only know 3 people including me who has owned one, my mate bought a 996, it hydraulic locked at 6000 rpm engine wrecked, my other mate had an IMS bearing fail, engine wrecked, my engine is not wrecked but let’s say needs an expensive rebuild, this is not cheap.
Going back to the original post here, I’d have no problem buying a cheap Boxster in the knowledge that if the engine blew it would not be an economical repair, which is why I said that the engine alone if working with good compressions is worth in my experience £3 grand on its own, considering a rebuild is circa £5-8 K on its own and a minted £10K car needing an engine……. You can see where I’m coming from

Yeh bullet proof, I loved my Impreza, and look at the prices of Skylines now!
Actually I’m looking around 350Z’s at the moment, they’re not expensive for what you’re getting.
