what colour are you going to paint your drill Noods ?
I just renovated a old Elliott progress No1 drill bench version, but lucky for me it just looked a lot worse than it really was.
only had a touch of surface rust on the pulley cover, everything else was smothered in 50 years of oil and grease.
I don't have any pitting on mine at all and although the motor worked, it was full of crap and needed a good clean out or would
only work with a push start.
when doing any cleaning you will find the dark red Scotchbright pads are brilliant and don't harm the metal they are cleaning.
I used wd40 , then white spirit then methylated spirits on the pad, the un-coated steel parts come up like new this way .
the meths is great as it gets rid of the white spirit and evaporates good. Then a strip down of all the parts to be painted , taken
back to bare metal then a nice re-paint with a drop of johnstone's metal paint and all is good, time taken to do it was around 6 hours
of enjoyable work, and still have half a tin of paint for future touch ups.
