Packing "Hernia Henry" on a pallet

Big bubble bubble wrap is what I would use. Sheet foam under the base to stand it on ( because that what I see composite stone delivered to site on). Ply box around the item with 2-3" clearance stuffed with big bubble wrap. 2 bands each way over the top and maybe a couple of turns of that reinforced packing tape round the box sides.

as a matter of interest how much are you charging for dog casting?

I only do a Clumber, so far to get the mould has cost (make sure you're siting down!) £1400, but I own it outright. I charge £99 for Henry. It costs about £25 in materials (excluding what I'll now need for packing....!)

Doesnt suprise me at all, been in the business over 25 years, general rule of thumb is to cover mould costs/overheads/materials/labour etc etc you have to sell 30 castings to get to break even point.
yes I am a mould maker, generaly master moulds which you make to then produce the working mould, that way if a mould breaks down you can replace it quickly, or make multiples to start with.

If you think that mould was expensive try plastic injection moulding. You are easily talking £50,000 for something fairly basic! And yes speaking from experience although I suspect they are cheaper now with CNC and China but probably not by much. We asked a Chinese company to quote for a plastic pallet crate - they wanted over £1 million! I told them I would buy the machinery and do it myself for less than that!

Mr. Fuzzy will know better than I do... but there might be a decent price drop on the pallet shipping if you lie it down on it's side ?

I think if you can get it under 600mm high it's a cheaper rate ?

proper shrink wrap is mavelous stuff for sticking things to pallets with chould also shrink wrap padding to your casting

Be very careful with banding. Too tight is worse than too loose.
Shrinkwrap is great for holding things like boxes together. I have often seen a whole load of say computers slide off a pallet because they have only used shrinkwrap. It only offers a tiny purchase on the bottom bit of tbe pallet.
Unless you do what I do. Lift on forklift and go right around underneath as well. Not everyone has a forklift though.

Back from Oz and a diversion (for work) through Taipei!

The tool arrived, thanks Captain Destructo, when I'm back from Darlington (off there tomorrow for 4 days!) I'll investigate furtehr, I do like the many different methods used to secure the box - neat!!

Clingfilm, brown tape, cloth tape with buckles and "bander" tape! A real smorgasboard of fixings!

so how long did it take you to get into the parcel

Darlington!!! 15 mins up the road you could have collected

another idea for fixing
piece of ply just bigger than the base fix a small timber around the edge
big sheet of plastic

place the plastic on the pallet
then the ply on top in the middle of the pallet
then screw it to the pallet
place the dog on the pallet
lift the plastic sheet up trim and tie a not in it
gas torch shrink the plastic to hold it all in place
then a couple of straps to help hold it in place
