I've recently been using a three inch swivel base milling vice and a three inch drill press vice together, that will hold most things at nearly any angle & position but as you say, no one vice will be suitable for every job.I have a variety of vice designs, and not a single one of them is suitable for every task I might wish to do.
I'd really like an Emmert pattern makers vice (Pattern makers have all the best tools) One of these might also be a useful addition to your shop if you work with weird shapes often.
What was it made of and how round was the ball?Taught as in 2" square cube first then 1" square second and then make it a ball!
