working at some flats for a week so dumped 6 bags of crap out of my garage in to the wheely bins on dustbin day one in each bin brilliant . went today to deposit a couple more but wasnt any there asked the maintenance lad and he said all 6 had been nicked a couple of days ago had mine nicked last year by a bloke near by so went and dumped all the crap out of it on his drive and got it back

had ours nicked about 8 weeks ago, found it melted in the fields near the local fishing pond

think they charge 45 quid for a replacement i painted a big yellow stripe round mine so its easily identified might put a few scrotes off pinching it

with us you get 1 free replacment per bin or recycling receptacle, per year providing you havent had any 'refused to collect' notices in that year...or thats the way i understand it anyway

@brightspark look n the bright side, in Teesside (well Stockton anyway) you have ONE bin and everything goes in it, down here in Manchester I have FIVE bins and god forbid you mix them up you will get a "refuse to collect notice" I once put a plastic carrier bag in the plastics bin. Bloody hell, wrong type of plastic apparently so issued with a refused to collect until I sorted it out. They are not consistent either. Different towns different colours for things, here general waste goes in the green bin, over the way in Glossop, green bins are garden waste! No planning at all.

Once in a while I will do ridiculous things, hiding stuff in a bin load of grass clippings for instance. I know, it is childish, but so is refusing to collect a bin because the lid is "noticeably open" whatever that means.

we get normal bin once every 3 weeks, garden bin is once every 3 weeks, meaning there is always 1 week where neither go out, plastic and tins, cardboard, glass and 'other' recyclables go out every week along with food waste...if your normal bin get rejected for having some horrifically dangerous item in it, such as a sheet of paper you forgot to remove and segregate, you have to wait til the following collection 3 weeks later and there is no allowance for extra waste on that collection...hence how i know that we get 1 free bin if reported stolen as the last time they refused my normal bin i dragged it up the road, peeled the sticker off, reported it stolen and got another the next week

we have to pay for the bins here as well

the theives also use them to pinch gear with them as well

branch waste gets burnt here thats why i have a burn bin as im not paying for the green waste

as goes for councils saying there green is pure b.s no bin collection is green no matter what the local council says it is

every 2 weeks alternate with the green and grey bins here green is for household waste whilst the grey is for recyclable

We're every 4th week for the normal bin. (Really can't afford to miss one.)

stuff that...when we went to 3 weekly, a lot of the locals purposely didnt put their bin out on the first collection, then piled bags up for the next knowing none of it could be traced to them...if we went to 4 weekly the first month would be carnage...they arent the most intelligent of people as a whole and couldnt see that all they were doing was piling crap outside their own houses for 3 weeks

we have just been given these bins , now with my sence of humour I am considering to write a letter to the council , stating that as they are their property and I have to safely store them I want a reduction in rates , reasoning is storing property on my property , and security covering their property . lets start the ball rolling with £3.50 per day . if we did this nationwide....

if we did this nationwide 1 of 2 outcomes occur...we get ignored and things carry on as they are now, or we get told they arent paying that so either take the bin, or dont have one but we dont collect bags off the kerb anymore

I always give our bin men a case beer & a big tin of biscuits every Christmas.
I put oily rags, paint tins , lathe swarf .
Always take it as well as any bags left on top .

our black general landfill bin had the lid ripped off last year, bodged it back with cableties, recently the sides split and it was dead,
asked the binmen about a new one, he said its £40 contact the office,
his mate picked it up and threw it in the truck, saying ring the office you will get a free one now,

I owe them a few beers
