New yard/work boots

Those red backs were at the county show this year. The sole looked really cheap and nasty.

I never met a single person who wears Redbacks who didn't recommend them, the only reason my wife doesn't have them is she doesn't like the way the sole looks. At the one farm my lad worked at all four workers wear Redbacks,

Both my boys wear Redbacks, seems to be the uniform for young farmers in our area. They certainly seem to be able to cope with daily abuse. For the best fit apparently going half size down and let them stretch seems to be recommended. Eldest has steel for work and non steels for going out. Again not cheap at around £90

Problem is boss puts a cap on what we are allowed to spend, and where we can spend it.

Which is bad as just dealing with the same boots again and again.

But it's the way he wants to run th buisness.

We have the V12 boots supplied free by work, I've just yesterday spent £75 on another pair of Dewalt Prolites...
The V12's are ok but heavy and not very comfortable. And I don't like black boots

These Dewalts get good reviews and sound quite light. Whats the sizing like - i.e. is a 10 a 10 or do you need a size up/down?

I’ve been wondering about this. Do you not get bits down them?

I can get away with whatever normally but on boats I should wear laces but with quick release zips which narrows

In my workshop I'll wear my proper boots.

Most of my work currently it's not been an issue

If you want decent dealer style work boots then look for blundstone or red backs.

I found a strangely interesting video on Gaz tube here…

I always have Blundstone 550's (leather lined ones). Comfy boots out of the box! But at £110+ a pair not cheap.

Never had a pair of Red Backs. Never seen a pair! I can't be mixing with farmer types!

Pair of boots for work last me about a year - whatever I buy!

They seem good ie a 10 is a 10 and they are wide fit so my Frodo like feet aren't squashed.

Good boots never start comfy.

How long do you give them? 6 months was enough for me! They live in the van safe box as emergency boots now.

Worked a lot with scandis and they wear leather clogs for Nearly everything.

I was issued some steel toed ones in Denmark but they’ve long gone.

Vibram soles steel toe as and hand made by a local man in caldbeck!
He made some of the best clogs, I think he has retired now

My last pair were red backs and i wasn't too fussed with them. I've got blundstone now for work which are ok. And a posh pair of blundstone which are really comfortable.

The best thing I’ve found for boots, and they’re getting harder to buy, is leather laces. The old cobblers used to sell them but they have mostly gone now.

They don’t melt like the synthetic ones

Ive a pair of Ariat work boots. First pair of rigger type boots, Ive ever worn from new with out discomfort. Dear but superb sofar and waterproof

Redwing probably too! Great boots but very heavy. When I worked in Angola we had a yank woman in purchasing, and for a while everything came from there. One day I flew ashore on a spare seat on the catering crew chopper. I was last up the stairs everyone of them in front had on a brand new pair of redwing boots. She got fired and the redwings stopped.

They are good boots. Redwings I mean. Not necessarily cowboy boots.

You can get a safety Stetson as well, which a few of the rednecks at GE used to wear.

They were always my favourite boot until they got a puncture, only reason I stopped buying them is because our local shoeries stopped stocking them and can only be bought on line these days, had too many I’ll fitting and can’t be doing with the grief of sending them back.

Yeah man I rock around daily in my DMs the soles are melted from walking in fire but they have lasted well coming up for 2 years abbuse.
I will order another pair actually thinking about it.

Screwfix now stock some of the doc Martin range. May only be online but atleast returns are easy
