Where's the yawn emoticon when you need it?

A development of the defender with doors that fit, a heater that works, some sound deadening more elbow room, better fuel efficiency, various body types and a hybrid option is what I want.
Oh, and half the price of a new Disco
The price will make or break it, so long as they dont fill it with electronic gizmos that will esculate repair bills.
Personally speaking as a company they have been far far too slow behind the market of the work offroader. World wide the utility vehicle market is huge. And most dont want to have to plug it into a pc every 5 minutes
i was suggesting not so much the TD5 but all the more fancy stuff discos and rangerovers have, most normal pick ups dont have.I still think this is extreme, even among Land Rover people the TD5 is considered too electrical and complicated, but it isn’t. It’s well proven and like anything (ab)used daily if it’s looked after it will last

That looks awfully complex for what is a commercial vehicle. I can't see the third world mechanic sorting that with a hammer & a screwdriver unless they are planning a "cooking" version for these marketsIt will probably have variants of the Ingenium engine fitted.
Yeah I agree, They've gone down the overpriced chelsea tractor road. Hopefully they've sorted out the Landrover rust problemI think we all need to be 100% clear they are not going to produce a Defender that can be fixed by a bush mechanic in the Sahara. It is going to space age compared to the 1980s 90/110.
Defenders have had electronics for 20 years now, it's not a new thing.
I suspect the biggest issue will be where they want the vehicle to sit within the brand hierarchy. That is part of the reason why they never fitted a sensible sized diesel in the later years, there was a 3.2TDCI available but they went with 2.4 then 2.2. If they had built a 3.2TDCI with an auto box they would have sold like hot cakes but that would have eaten into the Discovery brand.
They have clearly dropped the ball with the D5, it's not a valid replacement for the D3/D4. People new to the brand love them but a huge percentage of D3/D4 owners don't.Fair play they've managed to make it smaller, less practical and 1.5 times as much money whilst retaining none of it's original character
Where I live Land Rovers are everywhere, our road is on the test route for the taster days for new vehicles. Locally there are loads of D3/D4 but D5 are very scarce. I don't know a single D5 owner. Cayenne Turbo are almost common in comparison.
I hope the new Defender is suitable for the people who have relied on them for decades IE farmers and utility companies. I'm not convinced this will be the case though
If you can get a fully loaded LWB HSE Defender with a decent engine for say £60k they will sell a lot, I'd be happyI think they will start at 40k for the commercial variants.
Great. This will be one of the exact things that won’t make it a defender. Well out of the price range of normal man, especially those who have to pay 20% extra.
May as well face it. The Defender died in 2015. The new creation might be Defender in name only. Better to call it Pretender perhaps....
Anyway, I guess I can’t talk. I drive a 29 year old 110 so I’ve never owned a Defender.
I understand the sentiment but even the last few years of Defenders have been out of the range of the person who just wanted one to potter around in.
We seem to get forgetting what Land Rover are, they are not owned by the government they are a business trying to make a profit. Unless the the government brings in "Affordable cars" scheme where manufactures only allowed to make cars if they produce 10% that are affordable it isn't going to change.
When your 110 was new it probably well over the price of a normal car, everything are discussing here is speculation as nobody know the pricing structure. Even you standard run of the mill Mondeo/Insignia is £20-25K these days.
There are certain Defenders that seem to hold premiums and if you bought a TD5 Double cab around 2001 you could haven driven it for 10 years and still got more than 50% of you outlay back, I doubt there was another car out like that which in hindsight made it very affordable.
Working with this mind set I guess should really start aiming criticism at other companies, there are many others that don't produce anything that the normal person can justify.
I certainly won't be buying one, whilst I'm sure with a big monthly payment I could get one if it meant that much to me. It doesn't, we already have 9 Land Rovers and I would rather that money went into paying off my mortgage.
I could sit here and list dozens of examples of things an average person can't buy any more.
Apparently the announcement of the new defender is 8pm this evening.......
