Yamaha TDM 900s are a decent bike for the money.

I think the TeDiuM would be top of my list although I'm a bit short in the leg for any of those off-road things.

1100 1150GS? I had an RS great bike but it kept going wrong ,they reach a point around 50-60k miles and seem to enter senility, brakes, electrics, oil seals and the clutch is liable to go around this time. Lots for sale at this mileage.

I looked at an 1100GS some time back, they have the reputation of being the last properly built beemer, not too exciting but will get you to Timbuktu. I was tempted.
If you want a laugh, search youtube for A.Hitler being informed that his beloved VFR has been stolen but they've bought him a GS to replace it!

My first 1000cc sports bike was nicked out of the back garden. Steering lock, disc lock, back gate locked and alarm was on yet they still got it with no fuss. B###ards.
Have you considered a street triple. Gorgeous to look at, so comfortable to sit on and ride for miles. I'm a big framed bloke 6ft and 15stone yet this thing hardly noticed I was on it.

Fantastic bikes but not my scene. I am happy to be an old fart, it has to carry me and my gal and camping kit.
The Street Triple looks to be a headbangers bike.

For something similar to the Africa twin id go with what Robotstar says and go for the DL1000. A pal of mine used to have one and travelled Europe on it every year. Its only as fast as you want it to go and although has the same engine as the TL1000r it is a little more refined so not as juddery at slower speeds

Vstrom? concievably but again I dont really want big fast bike.
ZZR? too big, too fast not my cup of tea.
Multistrada? I would never buy a ducati on a low budget.

My Africa twin was stolen a couple of days back in Swansea.
I am a bit miffed but not looking for blood or revenge, too many positive things going on to get miserable about it. A very strange reaction from a life long biker.
Nobody make a fuss about dirty rotten thieves etc. Not interested in that stuff.
What next?
Another Africa Twin? maybe if I can find one.
Or maybe a Triumph 955 Tiger. Your thoughts on this one appreciated
No BMW boxer GS's nothing worth getting in my bracket around £3k. The Oil head ones are getting old and around 60k miles the clutch can go, my RS was a lovely bike but plagued with stupid things going wrong.
I want another big trailie as I like the riding position and can use it on paragliding missions.
No KTM's, too pricy and low budget ones sound like a minefield.
BMW 800GS? nothing within my budget.

Guzzi did a 650TT which is the baby engine, and a 1000 Quota which had the proper engine. As far as I remember, both were not as unwieldy offroad as expected. Shaft drive too, so no rocks in chains to be had.

I also cannot recall any for sale recently, which means they are keepers or they have all fallen apart. I suspect the former, since you can still get 70s V7s and Ambassadors relatively easily.

The Tiger 800 looks a mean bit of kit too, but probably a bit new and pricey still. I fancied the look of them when they first came out because I liked the idea of a slightly more human sized Tiger...

problem is I need all my savings to cover getting my workshop sorted out so I should wait until the insurance is sorted out.
If nobody buys it he will give me a week to raise the funds.
