New bike time.

My Africa twin was stolen a couple of days back in Swansea.
I am a bit miffed but not looking for blood or revenge, too many positive things going on to get miserable about it. A very strange reaction from a life long biker.
Nobody make a fuss about dirty rotten thieves etc. Not interested in that stuff.
What next?
Another Africa Twin? maybe if I can find one.
Or maybe a Triumph 955 Tiger. Your thoughts on this one appreciated
No BMW boxer GS's nothing worth getting in my bracket around £3k. The Oil head ones are getting old and around 60k miles the clutch can go, my RS was a lovely bike but plagued with stupid things going wrong.
I want another big trailie as I like the riding position and can use it on paragliding missions.
No KTM's, too pricy and low budget ones sound like a minefield.
BMW 800GS? nothing within my budget.

My last bike was a Triumph 955i Sprint, from the moment I picked the bike up I fell in love with the 955i engine. Tons of torque and power from idle all the way to the limiter, nice smooth linear power delivery twined with the fantastic triple sound track I originally fancied a Tiger but went for the Sprint as it was easier for the wife to get on/off due to the lower height. It's still on my list of bikes to own one day.

Yamaha TDM 900s are a decent bike for the money.

I had a tiger 955i on sprints wheels and forks and absolutely loved it, far and away the best bike I've ever owned....once I got it moving. Having short legs, even on the sprint front end with the forks up through the stanchions a couple of inches too I lived in fear of dropping it. It's a big beast of a machine. My advice would be to try one out if you can as if you can cope with the size you will definitely be grinning. I had panniers and top box, each of which would take 30kgs. It didn't notice them and it wouldn't notice a pillion either, just a joyous engine, and it scared a few sports bike riders in the twisty bits too.

There was a Tiger in MCN few weeks back, early one, but looked honest and not too shabby-900 quid-as usual-did not have the readies.
Bet you can't find one cheap,and maybe its too weird, but a Ural with a sidecar, I know of a bloke who got one when he took FF parachuting,got all his gear in the chair.
If anyone did nick it, they would probably put it back next day.

Outfits? I have a mate who has a Ural outfit with a BMW R80 motor in it.
Gurly and I are interested in it. Maybe a side project and fairly cheap.
Bike? I am five ft nine. Africa twin? both feet on the floor, nice. How does that work with a Tiger 955? 30" inside leg.
Still baffled that I am not in revenge mode after thievery..
Love is a massive healer.
DL650? I grew up on big singles and love them but fancy a bit more tourer capacity for two of us. DL1000? too big too fast. Really????
I am going to wait a couple of weeks and see what the insurers have to say. My Dad has offered to help which is nice of him.
Next Saturday the 2nd I am off getting killed paragliding in the Alps with new 'Chum' for two weeks.
After that I will sort out bike.
Maybe another Africa Thingy.

I'm in the same boat as you Chunko, but for different reasons. Instead of some thieving git nicking my bike, some stupid idiot changed lanes without looking and wrote it off.

Either way, I'm looking for something to replace my XJR1300. I really liked that bike,so I'd have another one, but all this talk of Triumph Tigers has got me interested!

I've always fancied an adventure style bike, but never even considered the Tiger. Not sure why really, but I loved the three cylinder engine in my old Speed Triple, so I think I'll start looking seriously now!

Anyone here have any experience of them?

TDM? maybe but want a bit of offroadery
Versys? naah.
Transalp? too small
XT660? I rode singles for years and they struggle on long runs.

Varadero? A mate of mine borrowed one for a bit and loved it. He usually rides a zx6.

I think I want another africa twin with a bit more poke, but not much more.
BMW F800GS? sounds perfect. Too pricy.
But the Africa Thingy has that 'Thing' You cant define it but it is special.
People come and touch it, photograph it. I smile when I see it.
'Thing' that is special, something that does not come about very often.
Just wish they put out 70bhp.
GS? budget budget.

R1200GS, there I said it and I don't care.

I received a recall for mine today because the alloy wheels are prone to cracking, but please don't let that put you off, they are cracking big bikes.
