I wouldn't have thought they would check the glow plugs on a service, only if it went in with a starting fault and if it's struggling to start when it's quite warm weather I'd say it's not the battery as you don't need anywhere near the CCA in summer / warmer months it's needed for winter when the oil is thicker etc

we have had a few over the years, brand new batteries that die in no time

640cca is a reasonable amount for a diesel, But probably borderline if it's got alot of bells & whistles!

It really does depend on engine size also

My 2.2 4 cylinder has a 740cca Bosch Battery & it starts on the button everytime

@the snooper How do we know the battery is in good enough condition to start the vehicle?

Doesn't mean to say its giving out the cca it's rated. I would definitely test the battery first to make sure it's in good condition

Most of the new tranny's have 2 batteries now, one purely for cranking the other for everything else

Biggest battery you can fit under the seat. Mines a 2.2, Not 2.4 & it doesn't have the twin battery setup like other models

I think you'll find glow plugs aren't a service schedule item , just replaced when needed.

being as its a diesel then it will make a big difference if you put a smaller battery in.
the manufacturers are very good at working out what a car needs and as a cost excersise the cheapest battery they can get away with.
so putting a smaller one in is nearly always asking for trouble unless you want to sell it

looking online yes but in hotter countrys the cca so was said not so important thats why the cheaper battery put in and was defo lower cca as said from memory 640 comparded to the 700 of the factory battery

Not necessarily, take the wires off and test them, if you can heat the plugs a couple of times and then there is still enough in the battery to start it, I'd be looking elsewhere

ok think find recipt ask euro parts to cheak it im assuming they would have a tester ?

I had an Exide one fail just out of warranty. Bought exactly the same one from ECP & got it credited under warranty

@angellonewolf They're not the best, I worked for ECP previously in the past & the returns rate/warranty was pretty bad on them

The thing is it's not always the cold temperature that can kill batteries, the warmer weather can do the same

If I was you & the battery is no good/you can afford to upgrade. Then I would to a Varta/Bosch S4 instead

Have you checked the earths? Battery to chassis and chassis to engine.

Have you checked starter lead and main earth points? Not usually the actual battery connection that gives the problem

We tested one on our snap on tester they took it back tested it and said it was fine but couldn’t start the 2.5 Diesel engine it was destined for

we had to get a refund and start again

If you have a known good battery of average size, i'd swap that in to see if any different. Ideally need a tester on the battery.
I used to jump start an 11 litre diesel with the car, not a viable long term option but be surprised what can be done with a good smaller battery
