I bought 6no of three sizes and measured each one for a table for them, to show how bad they were. It was not easier than making them myself. One of the six fitted without modification.

That's shockingly bad. I know RDG have never exactly been classed as selling quality kit, but that's taking the mick even for cheap stuff. Wonder how long it'll take for them to make the Myford name become worthless, at the rate they're going.

Not only was it not cut through properly, the sides were not parallel, and too wide at the narrowest point. I do not even know how this is possible.

I had a ten email exchange with RDG, who did offer to exchange, but ?With what? I thought.

One reply included the phrase 'We have never had any problems before with these.' I proffered 'Perhaps no-one has bothered to complain'

A bit of filing sorted them out, but the point is ?Why did I have to?

That is definitely well up there on the abysmal quality scale. They obviously like to throw a bit of variety into the mix as to how many basic processes they can cock up.

Exactly. The whole point of getting stuff like that is to save yourself having to do the work. By the looks of that one you showed, seems it might be less hassle to make ones own, rather than trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear.

With places like that you know that their stuff isn't going to be top quality, but they're just having a laugh with stuff like that.

See if you can get the rough OD measurements from the old gears, and make sure they check the replacement ones against those measurements before sending any more. Or, try and get the measurements from the new ones and make sure the replacements are a gnats lesser in size.

Right, just measured them, the new 28t is within .05mm, the 30t however is .30mm oversize, uploading a vid to show them turning too

As someone said check the profiles as a combination of a bigger profile and a tighter mesh is likely to snap teeth.

I'll say it again.....both sets of gears have gone the same way and can you prove the other set that came with the lathe is the originals?

I can't prove the old gears are original , but they parts that aren't stripped are meshing fine, the new ones were stripping each other on rotation, ie the 28 t was rotating with pieces of the 30t teeth in it

The vid shows that the old ones , whilst damaged do rotate freely when meshed, while the new ones barely rotate at all, and when they do, the 28t tends to pull the teeth off the 30t

Like I said as well, I can't prove the old ones didn't strip in this way, however given that they rotate freely, I would be more inclined to believe they were stripped in the manner they were designed to, ie if the cross slide crashed

Can you take a photo of the tumblers engaged with gear on the headstock spindle gear preferably clearly showing it engaged from the other side.

Before anyone can say its the tumbler,an accurate reading should be done on the spindle for runout at the back of it.

But again, the problem is present with only the two tumblers meshing, I respect your thoughts but I would expect the issue to only present itself whilst installed in the gear train if it was a wider issue, as it stands, with nothiing else fitted to the tTumbler lever, the gears will strip themselves when rotated by hand

I'm a complete technophobe, if it doesn't run on steam, diesel or petrol I regard it as witch craft! And yeah, they seem to have been cut for an intereference fit!
