Today I rebuilt the Harrison compound slide.
And a nice finish it was. Very smooth running.

There is a top plate that goes on there but the original is a little worse for ware. So I will make a new one out of some ground steel plate.

The travelling steady has now been paint stripped and ready for a clean and prep. Steady parts have been cleaned in the citric for a few hours. Ready for prep tomorrow.

Today's mission.
Get all the steady parts cleaned and sorted. And get the steady cleaned and ready for paint.i started at 8 this morning and have just finished (3 clock)

I have yet to decide whether to blue the bottom of the steady just to check how flat it is.

Yes definitely. It's not going to make hardly any difference. But as I have mentioned it I will have to as it will pluck away at me.

Today I removed the top half of the cross slide and fittings. Haven't removed the carriage as that will require some planning. But it's off..I thought it was stuck but realized it was the weight of it. Taper Gib strip so that will possibly need shims after scraping. I also cleaned up the bed ways and cross slide ways and covered them in grease for now. So it's on to the multiple stages of cleaning.

Today I finished the travelling steady. Also got the top half of the cross slide cleaned. I can now blue up and see what's what. Thankfully I can just enough on the parallel to do the dovetails.

Am very happy with them from a starting point. Should be a nice straight forward scraping session.

Finally got the swivel scraping done....what a job ! Slightly light on the left side but nothing that's going to cause any problems.

Well it won't wobble that's for sure. What is it 7" diameter? Usually you'd like to see a bit more contact especially on a 'static' part but it'll do the job just fine and it's a lot better than the usual 'touches in 3 places' you normally get. Looks like hard iron I bet that wasn't much fun to scrape.
