Make 2 x longer wedges to get clear of the casting.
That would have been the best solution but they are not coming out - very firmly wedged - literally!
Going to try the Record after work.
Fingers crossed for you with this one!
Have you got a towel under the chuck so if and when it pops out it won't damage anything ?
Cheers. No but drawbar in place slackened off so won't drop far.
Worked like a charm!
Took some force but well within the vice's capability.
Just a little pop and off it came - damn thing!
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and especially Dave for the idea of these taper wedges. Why they sell them for Jacobs chucks and not More taper is beyond me.
Glad it worked, I think they assume that Morse tapers are in a quill with a slot for a taper drift... ain't necessarily so!

I am so happy with my milling machine. In perfect condition. Hardly used. Ok it is only a basic one but it will do until I get my Elliot Sturdimill and Town woodhouse up and running.
Glad it came out without having to take it to bits or destroying anything
what Town woodhouse mill do you have? Any pics?
Same one as on lathes uk. The 369 but they have numbers wrong way around and call it the 396!
Damaged in transit but I want to restore it.
