no worries at all! i know what it like repeating yourself on build threads
lol ,im on the cortina site too,Ive had 7 or 8 of them over the years and broke many others for bits,I had a tuned 2.0 stage 2 pinto in mk4 estate with 8inch wide wheels back in the early 90's,this brings back memories of welding inner wings and floor pans lol,great work there,keep it up!

Great thread Ian - makes me appreciate how much easier I have it when my project objectives seem insurmountable...
just a quick update on this, not much done lately but spent an hour this afternoon, stripped the paint off the scuttle panel and made a repair piece for the front edge. i'll do abit more when i feel like it!
folded a repair piece and started pulling it in the vice to get it to curve 
couple more rounds of gradually pulling it round and it's about there just needs the top edge trimming and welding in

I have been watching this thread for quite some time....I absolutely love your refusal to buy preformed parts....your work is inspiring.
Im very new to welding and check in on your post, then go have a go at an inner fender panel from an old truck Im resurrecting.

hi, i dont actually have any pics of how it is at the moment as its covered and i can only cope with seeing a little at a time
but these pics were taken a few years ago and should give you a rough idea of what i'm aiming for[/ATTACH][/ATTACH]

keep at it!...I know what you mean about only looking at small areas at a time....Ill be getting into door pillars and rockers soon and its daunting!

hi, got some more done this weekend,finally finished the scuttle panel. it needed 6 repair sections in the end! the last one was this small area
so made this piece
after welding i sanded the welds
side view just needs some filler at paint stage, and wiped over with jenolite to remove the surface rust. just need to weld it back on now

well well well wot a cracking job you are doing i used to run a mk5 est some years ago as a taxi nice to see one beening saved thanks for posting this and well done

As a complete newcomer to this sort of thing you have definitely assailed any doubts I had that what I need to do will not be possible with the tools available.
I am flabbergasted by some of the panels you have fabricated, very high level of workmanship there; inspiring stuff. Makes a couple of prebought mx5 sill panels look much easier! Thankyou for all of the ideas. Keep it up
