Making washers on a lathe.

Not exactly a precission product are they, at 5mm thick I would have expected them to have parallel faces. I suppose the hardened washers you find behind cylinder head bolts would be too expensive ?

This is why sometimes I like to do things myself. They will be OK for the lorry battery tray but not for the other bits I had in mind.

Well if the dimensions aren't critical, you could just tidy them up on the lathe...

They be ok for the tray.. but looking for some bigger ones now for some other bits I need to do.

if you have a pillar drill, holesaw some blanks, remembering you are using the inside of the hole saw, out of some 5mm steel, drill a 12mm hole in middle, fettle. Viola 50x12x5mm washers!

There's most of them. I'm not sure what happened with last one I did (Front left), it's came out slightly conical and very bloody hot (That gold colour is a heat tint and the white crap is plastic swarf melted to it). I'll grind a new parting tool tomorrow and do the last three, then I just need to machine the faces smooth (They're about 5.2ish mm thick right now) and possibly drill them out a tiny bit bigger - They're 12mm but I just noticed you said M12 so I'm thinking 13mm might be better for a bit more clearance?

Can't wait until I get a lathe. It will be so much easier to do stuff like these round plates I made .

Yes, they're excellent, easily my most used tool, you won't regret buying one.

i have similar washers here from a reputable source and they are all within the tolerance of what a 12mm washer could be.
e bay and cheap usually means one thing if thats where the spencer got them.
