It's a possibility. Its a shame you cantconconvince someone with a hiab truck to drop them over the gate, looks reasonably flat once you get through the gate.
Bob
Rip a sheet of 18mm ply in two, put your machine on a pallet truck and pull the pallet truck along the ply with a tirfor. Only lift the pallet high enough to allow it to move.
too much of a slope upwards and sidewaysI would be more concerned with a slope causing it to topple sideways, the up bit just means a bit more heaving required. Steel on steel slides well, or conduit cut up to roll it on.
You can always strip most of the bits off too make it easier (guards, handwheels etc)

it would be far better if you could shove some hardcore or built up framing 6x2s thats packed
wheel off the side of the tail lift straight onto the 6x2s and roll it
4x 6x2s should hold a scaffold bar rolling reference under the lathe
Grease.@GraemeVW a quick question if I may, is your workshop single skin or double skin? if it's single skin, do you have any problems with moisture transfer through it?
WRT your problem, I'd build a ramp, put the lathe on a frame and use a Tirfor and ground anchor to move it, to give you control. Pushing & pulling by hand isn't a great method where control is needed as you need to put in the initial force to break the friction and then keep it going at a lower level - not something the human body is great at.

You can always make a construction like the attached picture where I am pushing a few tons of generator into an awkward corner

Grease.
The vikings used seaweed between wood bearers and their boats to minimise friction.
I take it your location is mis-typed and your live in/around the Chesterfield area.
I have lever chain blocks, pallet truck, electric winch, lifting straps, ratchet straps, plus other equipment.
Now if you want a hand to move a lathe or milling machine.
PM me with your contact details.
Up to you...
I need to get him round!also you can step lift
with 4x2s
