Wouldn't going counter to existing joists help spread the load over the whole structure better?
The load is just going back to the walls / stacks at 4 points as I see it. Thus the new "platform" doesn't impact on the existing structure.
It's just an option. The idea I'm favouring more as I think about it is simply angle irons resin anchored onto the opposing walls and the new joists sit on those.
