So the Parkside plasmas are back next week. £150 but no built in compressor. I'm sure last time around the non built in compressor one was around the £100 mark and the with compressor one, £150?

But it is different to the first non compressor one as it has pilot arc torch.
Can't remember what my internal compressor one was but £150 rings a bell - non pilot arc but I got a separate pilot arch lead/torch for it

150 for built in compressor and 80ish for non compressor

In easy to understand terms, for a simpleton like me, the pilot arc helps how/does what exactly?

Pilot arc is live from the trigger so you don't have to make decent earth circuit contact with bare metal, so better for poorly prepped surface like paint/ rust etc. Also good for nose hair removal and branding yourself

It turns it into a cutting torch like oxy-acetylene.

Never used pilot arc before but I would think it's very useful.

I ended up gouging a galvanised steel trailer last weekend trying to get the sodding arc to ignite.

@Barking Mat is that the previous non pilot arc model? seems to quote thicker material cut than the spec on uk as well

I think there is a thread about that on here somewhere..
The uk version comes with a 13a 3-pin plug fitted and is down-tuned to 30a output.
Euro version has a 15a plug and outputs 40a.

If you have a 16a socket you can change the plug and open up the machine and just twiddle a pot to get 40a out of it.

I'm not sure if they change/upgrade any other components on the 40a version but seeing (as above) that the uk price is more than elsewhere I doubt they would bother having different specs if it was just a case of setting the machines to suit the local supply.

I think the inbuilt compressor version is 40a (and comes with a blue 16a plug) so they might also do that with the normal one in the uk at some stage?

I have no idea, doesn't say in the blurb above.

I have no experience of these, as I've a three phase Esab, but it's a heads up as if you've no plasma 100 euros is a good entry level machine with a three year guarantee.

I had got this idea seeing the adds a couple years back but never could get one in a Lidl in NI. As said here they likely only got a handful in and they would have been gone quickly.

I was also unsure of the build quality etc and at the time they had no pilot arc.

I went for a Stahlwerks one which works great but don't use it often at all. Now I have better power supply to garage I'll be using it more.

Yes you're right, The internal compressor one has the 16a plug and has the 40a quoted cutting thickness.

But i reckon the internal compressor one offered in UK could have been a bit different/better, It was sold under their "Performance" range probably why the £150 mark back then. No idea where they went with that range.
Glad I got it even at 150, I'm really happy with it, works well on HF or pilot arc torches.
