Thanks cobbler. Id like to say I'm not fishing for comments but it does get stressful. I think getting as much bodywork as I can done then fitted for good will be great for my moral. To finally see it looking like it should will be amazing just allot of work. Least once painted each bit of work will be clearly visible as one less thing to do rather than one thing ticked off a list with nothing visually completed which is quite disheartening.

I know how you feel Kim don't worry. When I rebuilt my disco it seemed like for every panel I put in I was cutting another 3 out, it was horrendous. But now when people have a look around it and pass comment on the quality of work it makes it worth it . Of course mine is a laning motor, so nowhere near as tidy as yours

Hi everyone sorry for late reply, got very disheartened (again I hear you all say ) also realised my Audi mot ran out over a week ago. But anyway that sorted I have a game plan. I'm not going to buy the £950 doors. My friend who's an Lr mechanic actually said what grib said in that the new puma doors are much better quality. But what he said I could do was paint bulkhead then fit it and build it up and have it painted how Lr do but I said I'd rather it painted individualy to hopefully allow a longer life span. So I'm going to take the chance and get everything I can painted now which includes, front and rear bulkhead, wings, bonnet, grill, roof, windscreen mount and the rear truck cab bit, then I can least see things getting done and hopefully beig a professional shop if I pay for enough paint now they should be able to match it perfectly using the same paint. Then I'll just get rear body and doors done last when I can afford to. Least that way I can start seeing thing completed and actually be able to finish it mechanically instead of getting upset at the sight of more problems.
To many more big issues and I'll sell it in peices which seems a shame but feels like I'm going backwards recently.

Hi, Kim. You always reach points in a build where it stalls because you can't do any more until one job is done, it's usually a job that is big/costly/horrible/awkward, once it's done the build moves on apace and you end up wondering why you didn't do it before. You end up getting frustrated and disillusioned, the trick is to recognise it and deal with. It would seem you now have. So onward and upward.

With the 2nd row doors on my 109 I built the frames from scratch. I got a pair of rotten doors off Ebay for 15 quid and went and collected them (admittedly from Cardiff which was quite a drive) A mate of mine said I was mad and should have just bought a couple of repro doors as they were only £138 each. What I have ended up with are door frames that are much stronger than the originals - frames made from 25mm box and some 3mm flat - and even counting the fuel money and buying in the steel I have a pair of doors for less than the price of one reproduction. There is also the added bonus of being able to point and say 'I made that' if anyone asks me about them.

Got my rad and intercooler, but dirty but will hopefully clean up well. Much better then mine currently

Also got the td5 grill surround

Got my exhaust as well just need some time to put it on.

I'm going to try find a painter at the weekend if I can. If I can find someone I'll take some stuff for painting.

Small update
So my boyfriend was up this weekend, I most hassled him to help me pull my car outside and do some stuff. Didn't get a load done. Fitted the exhaust just need some nuts as I run out. But that's on there now
Then I went through my parts box and worked out what these were for

They go on this, just need two imperial nuts now but i need to work out the size. (Clearly not fitted but you can picture them fitted I'm sure)

Cleaned my rad and intercooler up with the jet wash then fitted.

After taking that picture I noticed this behemoth crack in it. Not a happy bunny at all

Didn't have much more I could start on without getting more nuts and bolts so I decided to get all the body panels out and take pictures to get prices for painting

It's all pretty straight. I need a new pair of doors as we established earlier on. As well I will need a new bit for my n/s wing as that's dented badly and finally maybe a new skin for the back of the tailgate. Other then that it's pretty straight and I'm quite happy.

Need to find myself a painted now. I want just the bulkhead painted for now but if I pay for enough paint hopefully they'll be able to bake it and paint it to the same stage throughout without needing to take it all to them in one go. I haven't got the room to take it all back in one go either which is my concern but least if I get it mechanically done then I can get loads painted and get it assembled

P.s anyone have any recommendations around north London Herts ish area for professional painters with an oven ?

Isn't Langy off here in your neck of the woods? Not sure he has an oven but his painting of parts seems first class.

I'm sure he will know someone with an oven to do a good job of painting a full motor too.

I'm going to try Bend the tabs on the old intercooler out popping the plastic cap off then doing same to new one and switching it over

Isn't that part plastic? You could try a bit of plastic welding with an old soldering iron

It is yes, I'll see if I can remove the end cap easy enough from my old one, if not I may try that but don't want any issues with stuff going into my engine

Araldite will peel off over time from most plastics. See if there is a 'recycling code' on the intercooler to see what plastic it is. If it's PVC ordinary plastic plumbing solvent weld goo does an amazing job. I've just fabricated a plating tank from 5mm pvc sheet using it and it's solid as a rock. Aluminium foil tape makes an excellent mask to stop the goo going where you don't want it.
