I heard that a properly working viscous will shovel more air than an electric, and will be more reliable. And if you go wading tie it to something unlovable with a cable tie until you get to the other side of where you're wading....

Hi everyone. unfortuantly this is not really an update, I have just purchased a rad and intercooler for £40 delivered which is good, so hopefully it's as good as it looks.
I was hoping to strip the doors this week but have not been very well so can't do anything, see how I feel tomorrow I may do it then. Hate feeling unwell.
Anyway I'll try get some more done soon.

Doors, doors, doors, doors, doors, I hate doors haha. So I've just stripped one fully and partly taken apart the other and they need a bit of work. Drivers door looks pretty bodged the passengers isn't too bad but does need bottom replacing as bare minimum.
The other problem with the drivers door is it's a mismatch of parts so nothing fits right and I think anything I do to it will not allow it to fit right or be right.
Passenger door isn't to bad as I say but I'm not sure what to do.
A bit extreme I know but I've just seen some puma doors on eBay for £950 full doors with electric Windows and central locking which is what I wanted and in the colour I'm painting my car. I'm quite tempted to buy that and sell all my doors just really not sure. If I did that it saves allot more work. And means they're ready to go straight on but I'd have to sort out wiring them in but I can work that out

if you can afford the puma doors and its what you want I would go for it and sell the old doors to recoup some of your cash.
there's no point in trying to repair the old ones if your never going to be happy with them.

I've had similar questions with what to do with my rotten and dented back door and in the end I repaired a spare i had and then reskinned it.
Just really to see how happy I was with my repair, thinking that if if it went badly at any stage i could just buy one instead.
It started of very rotten as you can see in the first picture, it was very satisfying seeing and using the end result.
Just dont forget to rustproof the repaired item, this one got a full litre of Dinitrol !
By the way, looking a superb rebuild so far.

I repaired my sons doors on his 110, front & rear on the near side. Both were much worse than that one, looking at the photo. I bought a 11/2 meter section of the preformed steel, this was enough to do both doors, the rear door being shorter. I reckon each door took 2-3 hours & was a lot easier than I expected.
£950 sounds a lot of money to me, but then my wife tells me I'm so tight I squeak when I walk, I would repair them if it was me & look at central locking kits electric windows later on.

Cost vs benefit - the door repair channel is cheap, but you're time and efforts are not. If you have to repair it, you'll spend a lot of time making it right, welding, painting and then more money on remote locking and electric windows e.t.c
Plus - then in several years time, it'll all start happening again. The Puma doors are much better quality and will save time and effort now and in the future.

Yes, being a Series owner I think clockwork windows and no padlock is luxury.

I suppose it depends how you are going to use it. Are you liable to ever wade it? If so I wouldn't touch anything electrical with a barge pole, landrover seem to have gone to an Italian electrical school! And as much as I'd like to say things get better , sadly the puma vehicles are an absolute embarrassment , and having been underneath a 6 month old 90 that has been back to lr 3 times now to try and stop the chassis corrosion, I would imagine the door frames will be made from recycled bean tins and fall apart in a year

Hi everyone sorry for late reply, got very disheartened (again I hear you all say ) also realised my Audi mot ran out over a week ago. But anyway that sorted I have a game plan. I'm not going to buy the £950 doors. My friend who's an Lr mechanic actually said what grib said in that the new puma doors are much better quality. But what he said I could do was paint bulkhead then fit it and build it up and have it painted how Lr do but I said I'd rather it painted individualy to hopefully allow a longer life span. So I'm going to take the chance and get everything I can painted now which includes, front and rear bulkhead, wings, bonnet, grill, roof, windscreen mount and the rear truck cab bit, then I can least see things getting done and hopefully beig a professional shop if I pay for enough paint now they should be able to match it perfectly using the same paint. Then I'll just get rear body and doors done last when I can afford to. Least that way I can start seeing thing completed and actually be able to finish it mechanically instead of getting upset at the sight of more problems.
To many more big issues and I'll sell it in peices which seems a shame but feels like I'm going backwards recently.

Hi Kim, don't get downhearted & sell it, you've put so much into it already. If you sell it on, you will forever regret it. Also all those bits that you've done with love & care will go onto someone's LR that doesn't give a monkeys as long as it runs. Keep going, we all look forward to your postings.
