If you notice it appears there is no temper! However all tge knives are tempered off screen by another outside contractor overnight. The competitors get no say in how (sort of unfair when thier knife might well fail from a bad temper)Its brilliant all this proper metallurgy. The knife people have got it spot on. I love the hot magnet test to see if the structure is austenitic before quenching. Its perfectly correct, better than checking temperature. I wouldnt have thought of doing it.
Me and the grandkids watch "forged in fire"....they love it and they think its great that Grandad knows something about it.....and they love the shelves full of books on the subject that are in "my" room. Its brilliant watching a 7 year old girl reading about welding and Im surprised how much she takes in. I think they are going to be nerds like me. The wife stands there laughing when a 5 and a 7 year old are shouting "No No No dont quech it in water you will get structural cracks"
