The Kempact we had at my previous employer was not very good, that's all I can say.
Have no experience with the Esab, but that would have to be a really bad machine for me to recommend the Kempact over it.

I've ran the 250 with no issues for the last 4 years and I've just purchased the 350 I've ran the esab 235 on demo it was nice but it didn't blow me away only advantage it had was it would run a 6010 welding rod but I don't run enough to warrant the need and the kempomats I have no experience with except the proper old school ones and they never let me down but were really never used much in anger to be honest

those patons have only literally just arrived in the uk market.. But honestly to me they look like something that will burn out within 6 months of serious useI'd recommend this to be honest

Thats fair enough I've had my 250 for around 4 years and I've ran it at 28 volts pretty much since owning it on 1.2 dual shield wire and its never packed up yet also run alot of 1.2 mm wire and 4 mm hard facing rods with it still turns on and welds perfect the 350 is just its bigger brother. But I agree they haven't been in the UK long so I can't argue with that case but after running some big brand names for years I'd say it will out last most

The esabs rebels have terrible reputions the Kemppis would be doing well too be beating them. Quite a few of the guys have the patons, @Tangledfeet had one till recently and I canny remember who else at this point in time.

I have a Kempact RA 181a - single phase MIG.
It is not that good - I would not buy another one! We only use it with A18 0.8mm wire on mild steel exhaust fabrication.
Out of all the welding sets I have ever bought none of them have been back under warranty - this went back twice inthe first year. If it fails again - I will not bother to repair it. Shame as other Kemppi stuff I have bought has been good.

how is it on spray? does it do 1.2mm well on it? and what version you got ? the r or the a?
what failed on it? and what was you welding on it?

I've heard good things about Kempacts from others who have them in Sweden and Finland and one in Germany. I can tell some of the negative comments are from single phase users, perhaps that subtype is more problematic for some reason? All the others I've heard good of were 3 phase models.

No personal experience of either, but I've heard enough bad stories about the Kempact RA series to make me want to steer clear. Heard plenty bad stories about the Rebels too, but most of them are single phase... the big boy 320 might be different? I dunno... glad it's not my money anyway.
I like both brands, they make some cracking machines (the older Kempomat migs we have are absolutely flawless, and I'd have an Aristomig) I just think both of those machines are built down to a price, and it shows.

300 amps +?
Multiprocess inverter?
Compact? Or workshop use only?
Price? Or quality?
If it's getting as much use as you suggest, I'd be looking up a notch at Aristomigs, speedtecs, and offerings from EWM, Lorch, Fronius... double your current budget, but a lot more flexible for aluminium, stainless etc and made for proper work.

Aristos are outdated tech wise, but they're still good machines. The interface on them is very 90's, but I was really happy withe the performance of the one we demoed, and they're cheaper than their counterparts.
Agreed, money no object for steel I'd want a Micormig or a transsteel.
Otherwise, you've got a wealth of cheap import machines to choose from... Parweld, Sifweld, crosarc, jasic... pick your colour of chinese... they're all about the same
