Sadly a Discovery, Rangie or Defender seem to be all that ticks the box except the new Landcruiser!

It seems that's another quandry for people wanting dual purpose vehicles, you're stuck between building/restoring something basic (affordable, cheap to maintain, reliable) or spending a fortune.

I hadn't intended the Vivaro to be a 'forever' vehicle when I bought it new in 2014, but given the price of anything to replace it as a van or dual purpose I can't see it getting replaced before I stop driving or drop off my perch (probably due to a massive clutcher induced by the cost of filling the tank).

I can see why folks buy them as the choices for something big that can tow sensible weights is getting thin on the ground

It's funny because I've always found they all tow well. My father has a 2011 Shogun which is a lump of a thing yet it's dreadful to tow with.

Same trailer same load (the Defender was getting hot on big climbs with it), Defender was absolutely stable and towed it beautifully. Recovery lorry broke down about 45 minutes from home so Dad came out to take the trailer and I could limp the 110 hone without the extra weight and wind resistance (20ft trailer stacked 4ft over the roof of the 110 with pallet racking). I'd towed it all the way from @8ob's with everything beautifully stable and planted on the road. Dad's Shogun was all over the place.

I’d get his Shogun checked out as I've never had any issues dragging stuff behind mine and on the group I admin plenty use theirs for just towing.
