The sockets are OK but comparing them for instance to Facom sockets you can soon see the difference. The Facom 12 points fit a lot snugger on the head of bolts also the mark left by the socket seems further in on each side ponit of a bolt head. But hey the Halfords are a shed load cheaper and I don't really here of them exploding from high torque so for the price I guess they are OK.

Bought the halfords kit earlier and asked bout the warranty they said covers everything so see what happens if I snap the ratchet haven used them yet but they feel good and the ratchets have a nice short click so il give a better opinion when I use them

Hence my point, why would you buy from this outfit when the staff are as knowledgeable as the kids selling you fries at McDonald's? Go to a proper supplier with the knowledge and experience.
I wouldn't be surprised if the kids who work at McDonalds have had better training on burgers than the kids at Halfords on tools

What's the finish like on Halfords tools? It may sound silly but that's something I really look out for in hand tools, looking through the spanners I got for Christmas I've noticed ; Snap-on is completely mirror polished, King Dick doesn't seem to have anything more than a quick de-burring, Heyco have a weird yellow tinted chrome, Hazet are my favourite in there, more of a satin finish, they just feel German. Anyone else use Hazet, they feel really nice but I'm yet to use any of it?

To be honest I knew buying it he was wrong and ratchets aren't covered but I said I'd ask and if I break mine il chance arguing for a replacement anyway it's only 10 mins out of my way between work and home if there staff think it's covered they might swap it without realising

I'm not sure what specialist info you would want when buying a socket set?? If buy off a proper tool dealer then maybe, but how many people have access to one of those?Your local motor factor staff are generally no better (in some cases I'm sure they might be but in my experience they are generally store men who happen to sell car parts, I certainly wouldn't be asking their advice on which socket sets to buy.) ps I'm not in any way defending halfords but I don't see the alternatives being any better.

I used to work with German guys (MAN)who all had wera 1/2 inch socket sets and 1/4 hazet sets (they used to get sent to site in a kit toolbox on every Install or shutdown job we went to). Stuff like King Dick isn't meant to look like it's in a beauty contest. Much like Gedore and elora. But what they do is last for ever and don't rust as easy.
I have a couple of emergency Halfords spanners I had to buy (RIP gedore sorry for leaving you in the engine bay and driving) that are more rusty in less than 10 years than King dick/Gedore stuff that is 30+ years old.
I can't even think how a King Dick spanner for instance could be broken you must have seriously abused it.

Yeah those sets are very basic and will leave you short but great value for the quality.
