In need of new socket set

I am in need of a new socket and spanner set, i usually buy Teng but now looking at the Halfords as they have reduced prices, whats opinons on them, i see they are life time guarantee as is the Teng.

If i got one it would have to be the 150 or 200 set.

i bought the 150 piece set 5 or 6 years ago and it has been brilliant. Even the spanners are good enough for most jobs, the ratchet ones are very handy. I use mine daily for site work, so it has been used in anger.

If mine grew legs and walked i would buy another one without hesitation.

I've got the halfords pro stuff, never got a kit as I bought tools individually. Now I have sockets and spanners from around 4mm all the way up to 36mm

Had them for about 10 years and still going trouble free. At the time they were best value for money in that quality range

I use Teng and find them well designed for purpose and reasonably priced although you don't seem to see the make around as much as you used to ?

I really like the halfords stuff, the lifetime guarantee is good and you don't need to send broken bits back you just go to the shop and exchange them.

I think I read somewhere the lifetime guarantee now covers the ratchets as well? I haven't had the socket set but I have had the ratchet spanners for about 10 years and they have been great, and heavily used as well.

I've got a Halfords Pro set from a few years ago which is good quiality. I lood at the 'advanced' stuff they have replaced it with and I'm less than impressed with the finish of the stuff.

What about Draper Expert?, we had something similar to this at my last place and it stood up to everyday maintenance use, seen them on Amazon cheaper.
I think WelderPaul bought a similar set some time ago?, might get some feedback.

I was looking at spanners a while back -

used snap on (life time gaurentee) is about the same cost as new halfords pro (also lifetime warranty)

i purchased used snap on.

if your buying second hand snap-off then best buy from a dealer, i purchased my ratchets new from the snapon dealer when i worked over the west coast for a bit i then moved back to fife, the rachet pawl finaly gave out on my 3/8 drive so i took it to the local dealer ( visits 2 local garages on the 1st thursday of the month) he looked at it and said no, i argued it was a lifetime gaurentee etc but he point blank refused to repair it because i didnt buy it from him. that was when i started buying halfords pro kit, dose the job just as well and no hassle if it needs replaced.

ive heard that, but ive also heard completely the opposite also
ive also heard people being refused halfords warranties without receipt (even though it says halfords on the tool)

so, i think its just individual cases.

The halfords kit is bi hex, I found I needed some wall drive ones as well for old knackered fixings.
If I we're to buy again I would try to find a wall drive kit from the off

I have the same set and it's brilliant and I got it for a song on ebay. I have a cheap bi-hex Kamasa set as well for taking to scrapyards etc. but the Bahco with 6 point sockets and swivel spanners is my go to toolkit. I actually clean the orange handles with a degreaser rag as I love it so much

They seem to start at about £130 on fleabay, I would not be without mine.
The 1/4 set is particularly nice to use.

Well not long after i posted this i dashed out and got the 200 piece Halfords Pro set, £150 ( was £300 ) nice bit of kit and the recepit is tucked away, just incase, i like the wall drive sockets, already used one to remove the callipier of a kit car which had a knackered nut, very handy. New pride of place is in the workshop
I chose it as it has a good selection of Imp and Metric sizes, Imp is needed a lot on these Dutton kit cars.

I use Teng, Brian Pope's shop in Stockport is a dealer. The opening times over this time of year is generally limited in my experience. I have bought a few Halfords bits over the years including a small pro socket set but think that there is a better quality to the Teng parts, especially the sockets and ratchets.

At work I use snap on sockets, but at home I've got an old halfords 1/2 set which is ok and really cheap 3/8 stuff which again is ok for home use.I like teng tools also use some bergan or us pro stuff for light use at work.I would never buy draper sockets as I got a free 1/4 set with a magazine subscription and the ratchet started slipping when I first used it.
