Close fitting 8.8 or 10.9 bolt inside the insert, then weld around shank onto hex of the nut?

Going by the rounding on the corners I would suggest you may be using an adjustable wrench to remove this or what have you tried?
A Stilson wrench is required as it will bite in and bite harder as required to get purchase and remove it.
As before heat will help too. No amount of us responding is going to change this- get the heat and suitable Stilson out and report back.
Worst case you snap the nut part off and end up having to drill out the remainder and tap it out again- I know it’s a bit mangled but if it’s not leaking I really do suggest leaving it alone.

I still can't see - it may be clearer in the metal. It looks like a very short female thread with a larger diameter, rusty, plain bore further in?
If the thread is good, and you don't a larger thread for some theoretical higher flow, I'd be leaving it alone.

Personally speaking Id bin those cheap sthilsons and get a decent cast set! Far less likely to break when the 4 foot tube is on the handle!

Personally, I'd tickle it with a file to get it back to something reasonably close to hexagonal, heat it enough to kill any anaerobic sealant in it (aka Loctite) then use a hex socket and breaker bar, or if you have one, an impact wrench. I have a few hex sockets that I've ground flat on the end to remove the internal chamfer. That way, they get the best possible purchase on thin hexes. I found the socket mod essential for the brass check valves on a lot of small compressors and it saves a lot of faffing about on fittings too.
When you reassemble, use the blue Flomasta liquid ptfe from screwfix. It's pretty cheap and is the best compromise between a good sealant and minimal threadlocking strength that I've found. They do a thread sealant too, but it's much harder to disassemble later.

Grabbed the stilsons from work and nothing applied a bit of heat (wanted to do without realy as it's been painted but)
I hardly even leaned on it and it turned and came out
