So I swapped over the wires from inside the motor to A1 & A2 and...

It made a dreadful droning noise then tripped the power. I put the wires back to how they were and it did nothing, so yeah, it's ********. Dad's taking it to work tomorrow.

Have you checked the fuse in the plug if it has one?

Sounds like the capacitor isn't kicking in to start the motor, did you reconnect all the wires as it was working to start with?

This, because what little we can see of it suggests the supply should be to A1 and A2.

The overload is connected between A2 and T3, the supply is connected to A1 and T3 so in effect, the supply is between A1 and A2. T2 is connected to nothing.

The fuse in the plug had blown, replaced it and it runs fine now but dad is still taking it to the electricians at work so they can have a look at reversing it.

I've also started to seal the floor, I've done maybe a third of it, when what I've just done is dry (tomorrow), I'll move as much as I can onto the sealed bit and then do the bit under where it all was.
I should be getting some red floor plaint soon too.

I've started doing it in a light grey but I have ******** up slightly, there's an old patch of oil on he floor that I've never thought anything of but now I've painted over it, the paint won't dry so I've had to white spirit and wire brush it off as best I can. Right now it looks a right mess but hopefully the oil will come off with some more scrubbing, the spirit will evaporate and I'll be able to paint over it all like nothing ever happened.

Good news is the motor has been reversed and I should have it back by Sunday.

The really good news is that I'm buying Brewdexta's Chipmaster and he's delivering it in a few weeks (I didn't want to say anything until a date had been confirmed). He's bringing an engine crane to unload but we can use to lift the mill into position too. With that I should be able to make a nice bushing to fit the new motor to the old pulley and finally power the mill.

Pocket money must have gone up, it used to take me weeks to save up to buy brake blocks for my racing bike when I was your age!
I think I used to get £2.70 a week for my paper round and £4 a day when I worked Saturdays in a garden centre.

Try heating the oil patch area with a blowtorch to get rid of the oil on the surface, I've seen them do this prior to painting a workshop floor.

Pinch some biological washing powder, mix it into a thick paste and scrub the oil patch, leave the paste on the oil patch for a few days, scrubbing occasionally and it will draw the oil out. I use this on my drive after spills/leaks and it works a treat.

Yep or scrub in some floor dressing (spill granules) or even ground-up cat litter. Blowtorch does a good job very quickly though if a bit smoky. Wear goggles.

It's left over Christmas money and a fair bit taken out of the bank.

My cousin's offered to give me some tar remover (Used to clean road tar off alloy wheels), if that doesn't work

That sounds like a good plan, thumbs up to Brewdexta as well for delivering the lathe.

I'll echo what Pete said, wear goggles if you do as concrete exploding is only funny to those stood at a distance!

Nearly up and running, I've got the switch for the motor now and I've made the bushing. All that remains is the belt which despite being the one it had when I got it and the two motors having the same centre height, the belt is now far too tight. Could it be that it has shrunk and needs stretching or should I but a new, longer one?

Is there no adjustment? Or could you not add some spacers under the motor.
